by Mom_to_5 on Sep. 24, 2008 at 7:09 AMAwesome! Love the colors. Yeah people think you can't paint over stuff like that but you can. We had the cheapest cabinets in out home when we purchased it - kinda like that same material in that cart and I hated them - they were that same color brown as the cart and they just lookes so cheap. So we priced new cabinests - well - NOT IN THIS LIFETIME - atleast not till years times years would I have new cabinets (we have 36 cabinets that's probably where the ost is) so then the next day I saw an show on HGTV where they just painted them - so I said - what the heck - pitched the idea to my husband and of course he thought I was an idiot - so I did 1 while he was at work and he loved it - so we did our intire kitchen. We even did our outdated brassy handles and henges too - painted them. So instead of paying thousands of dollars for new cabinets - we paid about 45 with all paint and all! Sorry to ramble |

by Sudster40plus on Sep. 25, 2008 at 12:40 PMLove what you have done here. I have the same little stand, sitting in my garage, not being used. Till now..... Want to paint it, didn't think of it till I saw yours. Beings mine isn't true wood, its laminate. Did you spray paint or with a brush? Looks great. I already now have a spot to place mine once I get it painted. Thanks for the great idea, did a great job here. Bet it looks perfect in your cafe kitchen

by janethappygirl1 on Sep. 25, 2008 at 1:01 PMMine is laminate also. It was in the neighbors garbage by the street and had broken parts. My husband repaired it and then it broke again the day I was going to paint it. So, I got out the power tools and fixed it myself. I used brush on oil paint in gloss red and gloss black. The red took 3 coats, so I guess I should have primed it first. The black only required one coat. I took the handles off and painted them also. The whole project took about 5 hrs. When you finish yours will you please take a photo and share it with me? What colors are you going to paint yours? |

by metalnmyveins on Sep. 27, 2008 at 1:32 PMWe too painted one of these laminate shelf/carts, except we just spraypainted it matte black(for kids room). It didn't work. It looked really good until the paint started coming off of it :( Your cart looks great though! |

by toomanypoodles on Sep. 30, 2008 at 4:49 AMYour cabinet looks great! Yes, ladies you CAN paint over that fake wood finish stuff on cheap furniture. My hubby spray painted this cabinet white and then I painted the pink squares and glued the little foam hearts on it. Wish I had a better pic. It lasted the girls several years, but it's gone now since we just redid their room in a more grown-up look.

by WebCat on Oct. 4, 2008 at 12:09 PMFantastic job!! I think I found some gals after my own heart! I love giving things a second life. I call it "saving the landfills". I went the opposite way on this cabinet. Picture, if you will, an old cabinet painet ... not brush painted, spray painted with spotty "stops".... all black with gold plastic handles on the door. I stripped it and found some good woods. I couldn't save the ugly pannels so cut them out and made the whole thing look like my screen. This was a lot of work and I love showing it off! It's not as dark as it looks in the photo and matches the screen pretty close.
