Home Interior Decorating Ideas and Tips
Here is a pic of what my house looks like now(before we moved in obviously lol). We have lived here almost two years and haven't painted anything except the kitchen and bathroom. Now its time for a change in the living room and dining room!

This is my living room (dark brown) then the dining room (yellow) and in the back is an extra room (green) we use as an office. I don't like any of these colors!!!!!! the dark brown is so overwhelming and the yellow is too bright. The green is just not for me either but i'll worry about that later. ANY ideas would be super helpful!!!!!!!!
My idea so far is to keep the dark brown on the bottom of the walls in the living since chair railing is already up, then paint the top half like a Robins Egg Blue!?! in the dining room i thought maybe an orangey-red!!??! I really want to warm it up in there and lighten up my living room. Thanks ladies!

by Sudster40plus on Oct. 2, 2008 at 3:48 PMWell, I love the colors you have now in your living room. But if you feel a change needed, I agree it would look nice to keep the lower color the same, but changing the top color. Ok, I see you have brown/ivory tones for your furniture. What color of blue do you like?? I like the color of blue, and see it looking really clean with the creams you have for your furniture. Or use it as a another decorating color in your drapes, or pillows, in a design with all the colors in cooperated in the three colors. The dining room, you mentioned the orangy -red tone, hum, beings the rooms are next to each other, be sure and tie one of the decorating colors into both rooms. It will give a more cohesive total look this way. Go to the painting store, and see what colors seem to give you the feeling you are wanting. Are you wanting to add light to the room? More energy? Seems to have some great light on its own. Again, patterns can really bring rooms together, adding one color into the next room. So have you thought of having a butterscotch tone to the dining room, with a red tone in it. What type of furniture do you have for the dining room?? What color if wood, or metal dining set?? Same with lighting for the living room, it does appear it could use more lighting in there, so have you even thought of having the same colors in both rooms, but maybe a shade differant from the same color strip?? When you see dining room, or living rooms on like HGtv rate my room. what colors do you tend to draw your eye to, saying wow, I like that color?? You could also change your seat cushions to add the blue to the dining room, alot of the blues, and brownish tones are popular now, and adding a shade of the red, would be good, as long as its more of a color that looks well mixed in. I am gonna go to HG tv internet, and see what I see for blue living rooms. With your color of furniture. Hum..... let us know about the lighting for the living room, is it natural with windows, or need to have lighting from lamps?? Same with the dining room. And that office, wow, beings it has a closed door, go wild with whatever will give you energy, while your in there. Nothing that says too peaceful, you will never get anything done in your office otherwise....lol
Sudster40plus I have so many important people in my life, but there is always room for more! |

by WebCat on Oct. 4, 2008 at 11:03 AMIt looks like you like contemporary. So do I. No matter what paint you select you'll have to use primer to cover that heavy brown. I'd paint it primer white then you'll have a fresh pallet to look at. |
