NFL Legend Brett Favre Announces He Was Recently Diagnosed With Parkinson’s Disease

“I have Parkinson’s disease.” Brett Favre, 54, was one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Wearing the Green Bay Packers jersey, he won a Super Bowl and was league MVP for three years. In a hearing before the US Congress, the former player revealed the diagnosis he received recently.

In 2018, Brett had referred to the numerous concussions he sustained in 20 years of professional career, well beyond official reports. “I’m aware of 3 or 4” episodes. “But when you hear a ringing in your ears or you start seeing stars, that’s a concussion,” he told the Today Show. “If that’s a concussion, I’ve had hundreds, maybe thousands in my career. And it’s scary,” he added.

At the hearing before the House Ways and Means Committee, Brett spoke about Prevacus, a company that was supposed to develop a drug to treat concussions and that received $2 million in funding under a program involving an organization assistance to needy families.

Brett was one of the main funders: “Unfortunately I lost an investment in a company that I thought was going to develop a drug that would help other people. You’ll understand why it’s too late for me, I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. That’s also why I care about this story.”
