All things Barbie have been dominating the headlines over the past few weeks, thanks to the live-action movie that just hit the milestone of making an astounding $1.03 billion at the global box office. As Barbie fans reminisce and feel all the nostalgia, one woman recalled a memory from her Barbie-themed birthday party as a kid that didn’t exactly go as planned.
On TikTok, Julia (@joolia_go0lia) shared a memory from her birthday party when she was 5.
Julia shared a video on TikTok after she recalled a Barbie-themed memory that she appreciates far more now that she’s an adult.
"I'm getting ready to go to the Barbie movie, obviously, and I just remembered that I had a Barbie-themed birthday party when I was 5,” she shared.
Party planning was a little more complicated when she was younger.
Today, when hosting parties, we have the internet and social media to help with the planning. But those weren’t options when Julia was younger. Instead, her parents looked in the phone book.
"My mom said that she hired someone from the phone book because I'm 700 years old,” Julia explained.
Her parents called to find someone who could come to the party and pretend to be Barbie.
“Back then you just were like, Oh, look in the phone book for entertainers,” Julia explained. Her mom was thrilled when someone responded as Barbie, which fit the theme and her mom thought it was “perfect.”
Unfortunately, that’s not exactly what happened. The woman was Barbie — but that was her work name.
Barbie was an adult entertainer.
"The woman shows up and she is a stripper,” Julia shared. "My parents hired an adult entertainer for my fifth birthday party by accident.”
Her mom was mortified. But Julia, from what she can remember, loved the woman named Barbie, who showed up thinking she would be dancing.
Julia said the woman, thankfully, understood the mix-up.
"She played along,” Julia shared. “She did not take off her clothes. I followed her around, thrilled that Barbie came to my birthday party, and all of the parents there had a really good laugh.”
People in the comment section had a good laugh at Julia’s story.
“She said, ‘Let’s go party,’” one person wrote.
“Probably one of the best parties she’s been to! Free cake and no drunks!” another commenter joked.
“Probably her most fulfilling but least profitable days at work,” added someone else.
“Stripper Barbie is a gem,” wrote someone else.
Julia posted another video, sharing a conversation she had with her mom via text asking if she could find any photos from that party. So far there aren’t any photos, but hopefully her mom can find them!
