Mom Arrested for Allegedly Shooting 9-Year-Old With BB Gun as Punishment for Fighting

Police in Minnesota have arrested a mother after she allegedly gave her son a bizarre consequence for fighting with his brother. Katherin Rose Ewald-Conner's sons were reportedly wrestling on September 6 when one of the children got a bloody nose. Ewald-Conner allegedly told her 9-year-old that he could either allow his brother to punch him or she would shoot him with a BB gun.

After the story was posted on social media, many questioned the mother's alleged punishment style and expressed concern for her children. According to her Facebook profile, the mother has a history of working with children and advocating for those in abusive relationships.

The incident occurred in the early evening.

Hubbard County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a shooting just before 7 p.m. Wednesday at a home in rural Becida, the Bemidji Pioneer reported. Upon arrival, deputies found several people in the home. They spoke to the 9-year-old and the child's father about what happened, according to a release obtained by the newspaper.

The investigation determined the children were fighting and their mother seemingly wanted it to stop. When one of the brothers got hurt, she reportedly offered the 9-year-old his choices.

The boy had two options, according to the news release.

He could allow his brother to hit him or his mother would shoot him with the BB gun. Deputies reported the boy tried to run from his mother, so she allegedly shot him in the leg, the newspaper reported. After being hit, he reportedly climbed onto the roof to escape her. Ewald-Conner allegedly followed him up and shot him a second time in the forehead.

The boy had visible physical injuries.

Bring Me the News reported that deputies saw wounds on the boy's forehead and thigh. When authorities questioned Ewald-Conner, she reportedly admitted to shooting the child with a BB gun and handed over the weapon.

Deputies arrested Ewald-Conner and charged her with felony malicious punishment of a child and domestic assault, the Bemidji Pioneer reported.

The extreme punishment shocked many people.

Minnesota News Now posted the story on TikTok, and people were appalled by the mother's alleged actions.

"what is wrong with people!? I swear some people should not be parents," one person responded.

"Wtf is wrong with people! Praying for her kids hopefully they get taken away and put with a good family," a TikToker agreed.
