King Charles Reportedly Took Away Prince Harry’s Security in Retaliation for Stepping Down

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle walked away from royal life officially in 2020, there's been a lot of back and forth about their lack of security when they spend time in the UK — and who should be responsible for paying for it. But now, a new report claims that King Charles didn't just take away Harry's security because he was no longer a working royal; reportedly, he had a much more sinister goal: to get back at his son for stealing his spotlight with his choice to leave the country.

A source says that Charles' main goal was retaliation.

In a piece published by the Byline Times, sources close to the royals claimed that Charles felt "threatened" that his son and his wife would steal his spotlight with their new lives and wanted to make sure that didn't happen.

"The Sussexes had either to be safely in the tent in Britain or cast away and castigated as comprehensively as possible in order to reduce the threat of them eclipsing the rest of the family," the insider said.

Charles reportedly couldn't deny Harry and Meghan's popularity.

"The greater truth is that Harry and Meghan make better headlines than the King and Camilla or William and Kate," the report continued. "The idea of them still being in public service but abroad and out of the control of the institution and dominating the media narrative just couldn’t happen."

It's not too far off to believe this is true — after all, Charles' jealous tendencies have been well-documented over the years, starting with his marriage to the late Princess Diana.

He wanted to 'bring Harry and Meghan to heel.'

The report went on to claim that Charles decided that pulling the "transition funding which Charles knew was his son’s only lifeline to keeping safe" as Harry and Meghan navigated post-royal life would be "a very effective way of trying to bring Harry and Meghan to heel in the UK."

But as we know now, that plan ultimately didn't work, and as a result, the lack of security seems to be the reason the Sussexes don't spend more time in the UK now that their home base is in California.

Harry has made his concerns about the lack of government-funded security known on multiple occasions, pointing out that because of his royal status, he, Meghan, and their children are at risk in the UK without the right level of security detail.

In fact, in 2022, he filed a judicial review asking for the powers that be to reconsider his request for security, citing "neo-Nazi and extremist threats" along with his place in line for the throne as reasons why it's absolutely necessary they be protected.

So far, the palace has yet to confirm this report.

No word yet on whether this was truly Charles' motive behind the decision to pull Harry's funding, but if it was, it's no surprise that Harry has distanced himself from his family.
