Three years after settling down in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, Prince William and Kate Middleton may be gearing up to make a major move. According to a new report from the Mail on Sunday, the Prince and Princess of Wales are considering making the move to Fort Belvedere, a massive gothic mansion that couldn’t possibly be more different from their current home.
As they’re moving into the next phase of their lives as a family (and in their journey as royals) it sounds like they believe that the “magnificent gothic-revival mansion nestled in a hidden corner of Windsor Great Park” is now a better fit for their family, which includes Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Compared to the much more quaint and low-key home they’ve been living in over the past few years, Fort Belvedere — which sits on nearly 60 acres of land and boasts a reported 30 to 40 rooms — would be a huge change.
All of those acres include plenty of outdoor recreation space, which would be a major plus for this family who loves being active and spending time in nature.
Think about it: According to the Mail, the property features a swimming pool, a tennis court, a rose garden, two lakes, stables, and more. This sounds like it would be right up the Waleses’ alley!

“They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial,” a source close to the royals told the news outlet. “This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis.”
This home is a rather historic one, too, as the Mail noted. It happens to be the place where King Edward VIII signed papers abdicating the throne so he could be with Wallis Simpson — the American divorcée he fell in love with who would have prevented him from being able to rule. This led to George VI taking the throne, making it possible for Queen Elizabeth, and her family who followed, to be in the position they are today.
If the move does take place, it likely won’t be anytime soon. According to the Mail‘s intel, this is just Will and Kate planning for the future. If they do decide to make the move, it appears their family will never get bored on days they don’t leave the house. There certainly seems to be plenty to do!
