We’ve heard rumors that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are difficult to work for for years — even going back to their time as working royals. But the allegations that some of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s former staffers have made haven’t been proven — not that many of them have come forward in the first place.
But according to what royal correspondent Valentine Low said while appearing on the Unfiltered podcast, there’s a reason for that: Apparently, they “viewed her capacity for revenge as infinite” and “were very worried about what Meghan would do to them” in retaliation if they spoke out.
Valentine claimed that things were so bad for a time that even after they no longer worked with Meghan and Harry, the former staffers were still in a “fragile” state.
“They’d left the employ of the royal family and they still were in a psychologically delicate state as a result of what happened to them at that time,” he said, adding that if the couple “were difficult to work for then, they’re difficult to work for now.”
However, Meghan’s rep has already shut down these rumors in a statement to Page Six, calling it “harmful gossip.”
“[Valentine Low] continues to desperately recycle false, offensive, and long-discredited allegations in an apparent bid to sell books and resuscitate relevance,” the statement said.
“The Duchess has faced years of unfounded attacks masked as journalism in a never-ending smear campaign,” her spokesperson continued, later adding, “Meghan remains undeterred by the noise and firmly focused on her family and work.”
Valentine also said that he received communication from Meghan and Harry’s legal team after just before his book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown was published in 2022 warning him to “watch out.” He claimed he only received radio silence once the book was published.
In the book, a former staffer told Valentine that they were once berated by Meghan and Harry via telephone while they were out to dinner on a Friday night, outside of work hours.
“Every 10 minutes I had to go outside to be screamed at by her and Harry. It was, ‘I can’t believe you’ve done this. You’ve let me down. What were you thinking?’” the quote in the book read. “It went on for a couple of hours.”
