Mark Hamill Says Wife Had To Talk Him Out of Fleeing U.S. After Trump’s Re-Election

Since Donald Trump was re-elected as president in November 2024, many celebrities have talked about relocating outside of the US, and some, like Ellen DeGeneres, have actually made the move out of the country. Star Wars star Mark Hamill was almost one of them, but then, his wife Marilou York said something that made him realize the only choice was to stay.

Mark opened up about his almost-move in an interview with The Times of London that was published this week once he got talking about Trump and his policies — a topic that he’s always been outspoken against.

“I still believe there are more honest, decent people than there are the MAGA crowd. If I didn’t, I’d move back to England,” he said.

And he almost moved anyway, until Marilou convinced him that it was worth it to stay and fight for the country he loves in response to a message he sent her asking if she’d prefer to live in Ireland or in London.

“She’s very clever,” Mark said. “She didn’t respond right away but a week later she said, ‘I’m surprised you would allow him to force you out of your own country.’ That son of a b—-, I thought. I’m not leaving.”

Just as he does on social media on a regular basis, Mark also spoke out against Trump in the interview.

“The bullying, the incompetence, the people in place … The only way I can deal with it without going crazy and wanting to open my veins in a warm tub is to look at it like a thick, sprawling political novel,” he said. “It’s entertaining in a way because this could actually be the end. Our status in the world has been crippled and that will reverberate for decades. Making Canada a 51st state? Do you know how offensive that is? And then taking over Greenland and renaming the Gulf of Mexico. The distractions are hilarious.”

Unsurprisingly, once the White House caught wind of Mark’s comments, they couldn’t help but troll him for it.

“Since Mark has decided to stay in the United States, he will get to enjoy the many wins President Trump is securing for the American people — and really, who can blame him for second-guessing a plan to move to the same place as Rosie O’Donnell,” a spokesperson for the Trump administration said in a statement to Fox News.
