Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce may have announced their exciting engagement news to the world last week, but when it came to telling their closest friends and family members, they didn’t wait nearly that long. According to what an insider told People this week, Taylor and Travis told their friends about their engagement just about immediately after it happened — and the fact that the news didn’t leak just goes to show that they’ve decided to trust the right people.
Travis popped the question last month.
Though Taylor and Travis announced their engagement with an Instagram post on August 26, the proposal happened a couple of weeks earlier — likely the same day that she recorded her episode of New Heights with Travis and his cohost and brother, Jason Kelce.
Showing off the ring and the gorgeous garden proposal, Taylor wrote, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
They wasted no time filling in their loved ones.
“Taylor and Travis’ friends are thrilled for them, and a lot of them found out about the engagement right after it happened,” a source close to the couple told People. “Keeping it quiet wasn’t easy but now that it’s out, everyone’s just excited.”
With news like this, it’s no wonder they’d want to let their friends (and parents) know right away.
This intel lines up with what Travis’ dad has said about the engagement.
Days after the big announcement, Travis’ dad Ed Kelce said that the couple FaceTimed him right away to tell him that they are engaged.
“He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘let’s go out and have a glass of wine.’ … They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” he said during an interview with News 5 Cleveland.
Right now, the couple is celebrating.
“It has been a relief not having to keep it a secret anymore and they are glad it is out in the open,” another source told People. “Both families are overjoyed. There were toasts, happy tears and everyone is thrilled for them. Friends have been stopping by and sending little gifts. It has all been intimate, nothing over the top.”
This is an exciting time, so it’s great to hear they’re enjoying it. We can’t wait for wedding details!
