Kevin Federline‘s upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew, has already unleashed a lot of criticism about ex-wife Britney Spears, and the latest excerpt involves criticism coming from her younger sister. In his book, Kevin revealed text messages he says Jamie Lynn Spears sent to him and his wife, Victoria Prince, criticizing Britney’s parenting and her lack of “accountability” as a mother.
Kevin shared texts that Jamie Lynn reportedly sent his wife.
The first set of texts were reportedly sent after Britney “lashed out” at sons Sean Preston and Jayden James on social media, prompting Jamie Lynn to reach out to Victoria.
“Honestly, this makes me want to cry because I feel for those boys so much,” the message from Jamie Lynn reportedly said, according to an excerpt from Kevin’s book published by Us Weekly. “I’m her little sister by 10 years, and I can’t imagine what her actual children must feel like at times, but I am familiar with the feeling of being a dingy trying to survive in a wave caused by another’s ship, feeling like you have to rescue yourself. I always wanted her to get better, especially for the boys.”
She admitted that she had “started to resent” her sister.
Apparently, being Britney Spears’ little sister hasn’t been easy for Jamie Lynn over the years, as she insinuated in her messages — and she even accused Britney of being “incapable” of taking “accountability” as a mother.
“I’m still trying to come to terms with how she could be so unaware of anything outside of herself,” she wrote. “I spent my whole life based around what was best for Britney, and I never wanted to step on any toes as the little sister, so I quietly built my own life and career. I tried to be supportive, but in a way that was healthy for my own well-being.”
Jamie Lynn praised Kevin and Victoria for being good parents when Britney “couldn’t be bothered.”
On another occasion, Jamie Lynn texted Victoria about how “thankful” she was for the way that she and Kevin had raised her nephews when her sister wasn’t able to do it.
“And I’m sure my sister has never thanked y’all for raising her children and still being beyond gracious to allow her so many chances to take part in their lives, even when y’all had more than enough reasons to validate cutting that off,” said her text. “So I wanted y’all to know how much you are appreciated and supported by those of us who love those boys.”
Britney has already spoken out against the memoir.
In a statement Britney shared on social media earlier this week, she accused Kevin of “constant gaslighting.”
“I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys,” Britney wrote in a post she shared on Wednesday. “Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life. Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by own father for me. They need to take responsibility for themselves.”
