Kristen Bell’s Controversial Anniversary Post for Dax Shepard Is Getting So Much Backlash

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have always been about keeping it real … but this time, did they keep it too real? Kristen’s anniversary post for her husband has quickly become controversial, with some people saying the caption she shared on Instagram is “tone deaf” and inappropriate — and others are simply surprised this is something she’d share at all.

Kristen shared the post over the weekend.

Sharing a photo of Dax hugging one of the couple’s daughters, Kristen also shared a moment from their relationship with her followers.

“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would,'” she wrote.

Some people don’t think her caption is very funny.

While it appears that Kristen was attempting to tell a funny story, many people took to the comments to let her know that they weren’t laughing.

“Domestic violence isn’t a joke,” one commenter on Instagram wrote.

Another person said, “Not funny at all. What kind of man says that to his wife? Oh wait, I know exactly what kind. Get out now, Kristen.”

Some fans attempted to defend Kristen.

“I love how people on the internet think they know more about a stranger they’ve never met from a single bit of dark humor than his wife of nearly 20 years who obviously thought it was hilarious,” one of her followers wrote. “Maybe don’t project because you’ve never had someone you trust enough to understand this is adorable.”

Meanwhile, TV host Howie Mandel joked, “He should write for Hallmark.”

The official Instagram account for Dateline also commented on the post, writing, “screenshotted.” Just in case there’s an investigation in the future …

Kristen is now taking action against the negative comments.

Though Kristen hasn’t responded directly to those who are calling her out for what she shared, she has now limited the comments on that particular post, so it seems like she is aware of the backlash (and trying to put a stop to it).

But with all the negativity, maybe that’s for the best?
