By publicly bashing his daughter, Elon Musk inadvertently provided inspiration for her social media bios. After Gavin Newsom’s press office told the Tesla CEO that his daughter clearly hates him, Elon proceeded to deadname and misgender his 21-year-old daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson. It all started when Elon’s America PAC shared a clip of Gavin talking about trans rights.
“I want to see more trans kids… I have a trans godson,” Gavin said in the clip. “There’s no governor who’s signed more pro-trans legislation than I have.” The political action committee Elon founded shared the clip, presumably to try to suggest that what Gavin was saying was wrong.
Gavin responded to Elon’s America PAC.
His press office, which has been known to troll President Donald Trump and other conservatives, addressed Elon directly when responding to the America PAC. “Correct,” the California governor’s press office wrote on X. “We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon.”
This comment clearly got to Elon based on how he responded. Defensively, he insisted that he has daughters who do love him. Then, while deadnaming and misgendering Vivian, he claimed to love her. In addition to calling her by her deadname, Elon said Vivian “has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children.”

He said he hopes Vivian “recovers” from this. Then, he went on to list the daughters he actually recognizes as his daughters: “My daughters are Azure, Exa (she goes by Y) and Arcadia, and they do indeed love me very much.”
Reacting to Elon’s transphobic post, people were horrified by how he continues to be so cruel to his own daughter. On Reddit, one person wrote, “This poor woman. She is absolutely stunning and has to deal with constant harassment and Elon Musk being her ‘dad’. Ugh.” Someone else pointed to Elon’s hypocrisy. “‘I love my child’ after publicly humiliating them and ensuring they get targeted by your Nazi followers on your rotten platform,” they wrote. “Loathsome.”

After Elon criticized her publicly, Vivian updated her bios on social media. Her Instagram bio now reads, “She/Her🏳️⚧️ ‘Tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus’ Model/Digital Creator.” She used the same line for her TikTok and Threads bios.
And though Elon’s post was appalling, people were glad to see that Vivian seemed to be finding humor in the situation. “I’m so glad she is doing so well on her own and can just laaaaaugh in the face of these despicable immature a-holes!” one person wrote.
A second person wrote, “Even knowing your parent is a piece of s— such as Musk is, seeing him say something so despicable about you must hurt somewhat, so I’m glad to see that Vivian seems to be taking it as well as she can and not giving him and the other transphobic a–holes anything.”
While people were glad that she didn’t seem too negatively impacted by her dad’s hateful rhetoric, they still felt sorry for her. “She deserves to be young woman, and have fun and be herself and find herself,” one of them commented. “Full grown adults being egged on by her own father to invalidate her experience is so beyond evil and dystopian. I hope she is truly able to laugh at the absurdity at the very least.”
