More than four years after Josh Duggar’s conviction, his brother may be experiencing a similar fate. Joseph Duggar was arrested on Wednesday after he was accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl during a family vacation, and now, a video of his jail intake video has surfaced online. As critics are getting the chance to see how Joseph reacted when he first arrived at the jail, they have a lot of questions, but the most prominent one revolves around why he doesn’t seem to be taking the situation as seriously as he should.

A Reddit user shared a video of Joseph arriving at the Washington County jail in his hometown of Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 18. By all appearances, he seems pretty relaxed about the whole thing, and he can even be heard laughing as he answers an officer’s questions.
At one point in the video, the officer asks Joseph if he’s ever been to the jail before, to which he responds he has been there to see his brother (Josh) but “not on this side of things.”
Considering the fact that Joseph is facing charges of “Lewd and Lascivious conduct with a Minor,” his reaction to the situation wasn’t what people expected at all.
People were taken aback by how casual he seemed about the whole thing.
Commenters couldn’t believe that Joseph was laughing and seemed so casual while chatting with the officer, leading them to believe that he simply doesn’t understand just what he’s in for — especially since Washington County is just a stop along the way as he’s extradited to Florida, where the alleged crime took place.
“In this video, he acts like he’s checking into the Four Seasons. Florida has the strongest abuse laws in the country. I was reading where he may get a mandatory 25-year+ sentence. How on earth is his family going to survive?” one person asked.
Another commenter wrote, “It seems like it hasn’t quite sunk in for him yet. I don’t know if it’s denial or what. But I do not think that he has grasped that he is about to do some hard time. And I don’t that Kendra will stay like Anna, because she has the support of her family.”
Joseph could be facing some serious jail time.
The main reason it’s so baffling to see Joseph’s reaction is the fact that in Florida, the two charges of child sex abuse that he’s facing carry a pretty stiff punishment. In fact, if a judge really wants to throw the book at him, he could be looking at decades behind bars if not more.
Of course, this is all just speculation based on the laws in Florida — nothing is set in stone until if and when the time comes that Joseph is convicted and sentenced by a judge. At this point, his next stop is Bay County.
