Donating sperm can be an honorable gesture by a man to help a woman conceive. There are plenty of men who are biological fathers to multiple children through sperm donation, which has created many happy families. Unfortunately, sometimes things get a bit out of control. A father and son duo in Canada recently found themselves banned from donating sperm after they apparently have fathered more than 600 children between the two of them.
Philippe Normand and Dominik Seelos reportedly donated sperm to a woman outside of a regulated clinic and did not disclose their history. Now Normand and Seelos are facing legal ramifications.
Normand and Seelos allegedly lied to the mother-to-be.
According to court documents filed in French in Quebec’s Superior Court obtained by People, Normand and Seelos supplied an unidentified woman with sperm to help her conceive. The woman and the men made an agreement privately, without the help of a clinic. The woman claimed Normand and Seelos vowed to limit their donations to other families but did not abide by their word.
The woman chose the two men because she trusted them.
Normand reportedly agreed to donate to only 10 families and Seelos a maximum of 25 children. Normand had a single exception for a family he’d already entered into an agreement with.
“These promises influenced the plaintiff’s decision to use their reproductive material,” read the court documents, per People.
The men helped the mother conceive four children. The unidentified mother used Normand’s sperm to conceive three children between 2009 and 2012. In 2017, she reportedly conceived her fourth child with the help of Seelos’ sperm.
According to court documents, the mother did not know that Normand and Seelos were biological father and son until years later. That set off an alarm, leading her to fear the men had given her other false information.
The men reportedly have hundreds of children between them.
Concerned about how many lies Normand and Seelos potentially told her, the mother began investigating and made a shocking discovery. Normand’s sperm donations have allegedly led to at least 162 pregnancies for about 90 families, People reported. Seelos’ donations have led to 451 children or pregnancies.
According to court documents, the men have contested the allegations. They claimed they never made any type of agreement with the woman about the number of children they could father. But it seems the judge believed the mother and issued a court order barring the men from any further sperm donations. They cannot contact or advertise for donations, and their identities will be shared with clinics.
We are all for women using sperm donation if it will make their dreams of having a family come true. The fact that men would stoop so low as to lie about how many donations they’ve made is truly disgusting and totally unsafe. We think they should be behind bars.
