What to Know
It was an eventful weekend for Tiger Woods. On Friday, the golf legend was arrested after he was in a car crash in Florida that resulted in him rolling his vehicle — and earning a DUI charge in the process. While this certainly isn’t Tiger’s first experience being at the center of a scandal, he does have a different kind of spotlight on him these days, considering the fact that he’s dating Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife, Vanessa, meaning that he could potentially become a stepfather to the grandchildren of president Donald Trump someday.
And now, thanks to new intel, we know that there was never a chance that Vanessa’s kids would end up in the car with Tiger behind the wheel — even before his arrest. Honestly, this is probably for the best?
Tiger was accused of driving under the influence.
According to CNN’s coverage of the crash, Tiger’s Land Rover rolled over in the road while he was driving in Jupiter Island, Florida, and had been seen driving erratically before the crash.
When the police arrived, they were suspicious of Tiger. CNN reported that Sheriff John Budensiek said that though Tiger’s breathalyzer test came back negative, he still refused to offer a urine sample, and this added up to him receiving additional charges of DUI and property destruction.
For fans looking forward to seeing the golfer make a triumphant comeback, it definitely makes sense that this would be a major let down (not to mention what Tiger must be going through right now).
He won’t be putting Vanessa’s kids in any danger — at least, not anytime soon.
Even though Tiger is dating their mom, Vanessa’s five children — who include 17-year-old fellow golfer Kai Trump — won’t be in a car when Tiger’s behind the wheel because the level of security that is afforded to close family members of the sitting president.
“There would be concern if their kids weren’t being protected by Secret Service,” a source told the New York Post, adding that the family is “certainly not letting Tiger Woods [drive the kids around] – even without the DUI.” Yikes!
Another report claimed that the arrest was a major wakeup call for Vanessa, and hopefully for Tiger, too. An insider close to the couple told Page Six that this has resulted in Vanessa issuing an ultimatum that he will “get things under control, or she’s not going to stick around.”
“He’s embarrassed, he’s mortified at all this,” the source said. “And this is really humiliating for it to happen again. And Vanessa is embarrassed, too. All her friends are like, ‘Girl, what the hell?’”
Still, Trump seems to be a fan of the golfer.

Despite what danger he may or may not pose to his grandchildren behind the wheel, Trump is still rooting for Tiger to succeed, according to what he said in a statement following the athlete’s arrest.
“I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person, amazing man. But some difficulty,” he told reporters in Miami, via the New York Post.
