What to Know
If there is one thing that does not age well it’s, well, almost every clip from 19 Kids and Counting in retrospect. First, eldest son Josh Duggar found himself at the center of a molestation scandal involving himself as a teen and his younger sisters. There was also the Ashley Madison cheating scandal. Then, he was found guilty of charges relating to child sexual abuse material. And now, in a resurfaced clip from 19 Kids and Counting on Reddit, where Joseph Duggar talks about going to Jim Bob Duggar and Josh for advice, it’s not a good look.
Once upon a time the Duggar family secrets were well kept and hidden away. But every few years, it seems, one escapes and there’s a new scandal. But really, most of the scandals seem to involve the males in the Duggar family, despite Josh apparently once being a role model for Joseph.

In the clip, Joseph helps Jim Bob and Josh workout as they have a weight loss competition. But, Joseph admits at the top of the clip, he is used to those two men helping him, and not the other way around.
“I go to my dad or Josh for advice, but it’s kinda neat that they come to be for advice this time,” Joseph says in the clip from the 19 Kids and Counting episode.
In the special that aired in 2015 before Counting On became an actual series and official spinoff, Joseph admitted that it broke his heart to learn that older brother Josh was accused of molesting three of their sisters and a family friend when he was a teenager and that he was discovered to have joined the affair social media platform Ashley Madison. Of course, the worst was yet to come, but at the time, Joseph admitted he was disappointed in his brother.
In response to the resurfaced 19 Kids and Counting clip, though, users on Reddit are all for having other male members of the family investigated at this point.
“There is no way JB is clean,” one user wrote, in reference to Jim Bob. “I hope that whatever he has done is mostly financial related and with no other innocent victim.”
Another user wrote, of Jim Bob, “Dear Tontitown Police Department, if you are reading here, I strongly ask that Mr. James Robert Duggar be investigated next. Please and thank you.”
Josh Duggar was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to time in federal prison.
Well before Joseph Duggar was arrested and charged with his crimes, Josh was arrested and later convicted of federal charges related to child sexual abuse material. Now, the clip about Joseph looking up to Josh holds so much more weight that it’s hard for people to ignore, even if they support the Duggar family as a whole.
One person in the comments of the Reddit thread suggested that Joseph was influenced by Josh’s behavior in some way. But, another pointed out, Joseph’s alleged crimes happened when he was grown up with a wife and family. Still, that clip is wild in retrospect.
Joseph Duggar was spotted at the airport with Jim Bob Duggar.
After Joseph pleaded not guilty to child molestation in Panama City, Fla., he was released on bail and able to go back home to Arkansas. And, according to someone on Reddit who was at the airport at the same time as him, Joseph went back home with Jim Bob. Not that anyone had any doubts about the closeness of their relationship in light of Joseph’s alleged crimes, but clearly, Jim Bob is still helping his sons clean up their messes.
