If you’ve been on an airplane recently, you know how stressful it can be. There always seems to be a million delays or your luggage gets lost between connections. Some people are even getting stuck on planes still on the tarmac for hours and hours. Speaking of nightmare airplane scenarios, what if you were someone with a disability who got kicked off a flight in front of a huge group of people? This actually happened to a woman on a recent Frontier flight and she was able to catch all of the super cringe footage for the world to see. And yes, it’s just as horrible to watch as you might think!
A Deaf woman was kicked off a Frontier flight and was able to capture all the super uncomfortable moments on camera.
After seeing this viral video, if you weren’t a bit scared of flight attendants before, you might be now! A woman named Ashley with the handle legallyswiftie13 shared a video on TikTok of her being removed from a Frontier Airlines flight “because [she’s] Deaf.” Yes, you read that correctly.
In the beginning of the video, you can hear Ashley and the person she’s was traveling with trying to tell someone on the flight staff that her plane ticket indicates that she’s deaf, so she should be given special accommodations during her travels.
As the drama unfolds, which includes lots of tears, she captioned the video and said that one of the flight attendants “complained about [her] because [she] couldn’t hear,” so she was trying to get her kicked off the flight.
You can see in the TikTok video that there are other passengers trying to jump to this woman’s defense and vouch for her disability, but in the end, the flight crew ended up doubling down and having her removed from the flight.
People in the comments section have some thoughts about what went down on this flight.
Is it just us or does this whole incident looks like a discrimination lawsuit waiting to happen? It’s almost kind of funny because the woman this happened to, Ashley, has in her TikTok bio that she’s actually a law student. So, perhaps she could file something legal for what happened to her.
Lots of people in the comments tend to agree! One person wrote, “I know y’all are thinking “get a lawyer” but she’s about to BE A LAWYER FR giiiirrrllll I hope you get everything you deserve and more.”
A number of people couldn’t get over seeing such a blatant display of discrimination. “Wow! Enjoy winning your lawsuit because this is actually a horrible display of disability discrimination. A lack of accommodation when it is clearly on your ticket as valid is disgusting!” another person commented.
Another individual in the TikTok comments completely related to what Ashley went through due to someone in her family having a hearing disability. “With a daughter that is also hard of hearing this crushes me. I hate you were discriminated against, this hit really close to home and I was crying with you,” they wrote.
A Frontier Airlines rep shares a very different story about what happened that day.
Of course, since this viral TikTok video garnered over two million views, there was always going to be someone from Frontier Airlines coming out to discuss things from the company’s standpoint.
According to the New York Post, a rep from Frontier Airlines stated that “according to the flight attendant directly involved in the matter, the passenger boarded with an open container which she admitted contained alcohol when questioned.” The representative explained that it’s a violation of federal law and airline policy to bring alcohol aboard a flight.
So, if this is true, what was with all the theatrics then? The Frontier rep explained that when the passenger was informed of the violation, “the passenger rapidly consumed the remaining alcohol in the cup before handing it over.” Ultimately, the flight crew decided to have Ashley removed from the plane for this violation and book her on a different flight.
To be clear, the airline also disputed that there was any indication on Ashley’s plane ticket that listed her as a Deaf passenger. If this is true, it really does put the viral video in a whole different perspective because could it just be a display of clever storytelling? It’s very difficult to tell!
