Evil exists all over our world. The strongest evil often preys upon innocent children and uses them as pawns. In May 2026, more than 50 young children were kidnapped from schools in the same Nigerian town, leaving residents and leaders positively terrified. No one has publicly come forward to take credit for the abductions, but some believe it could be the work of the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram. The abductors reportedly used the children as human shields as they left the town on motorbikes. The worst part is that most of them were younger than kindergartners.
The kidnappings reportedly took place on May 15.
According to a report from the BBC, more than 50 children disappeared from schools in Borno state in northeastern Nigeria. Most of the missing children are between 2 and 5 years old. Tragically, witnesses recalled watching in horror as gunmen rode off with the children, shielding them so security would not open fire. The kidnappings reportedly occurred at the Government Day Secondary School, Mussa Central Primary School, and State Universal Basic Education Board Secondary School.
The kidnappings appear to have ties to an Islamic extremist group.
Some people believe the kidnappings are tied to Boko Haram, per the BBC. The Islamic group wants to gain control of the region from the rival Islamic State West Africa Province. The attacks traumatized many who hoped to flee the area. Other terrified parents must wait and see, hoping and praying their children will return safely, the outlet reported.
One teacher told Reuters they watched helplessly as the children did their best to hide. “Despite some students escaping to the bushes, I can tell you many were taken away,” the teacher said.
Parents stood by helplessly as their children were placed on motorbikes, terrified and driven away from them. They hope they’ll see them again, but the fact of the matter is, no one really knows what to expect.
What will happen to the children remains a mystery.
No child should even feel this kind of stress, and no parent should have to watch their child be taken away. It’s unconscionable to think that a grown adult would willingly put a toddler’s body in front of their own to take a bullet for them or that they would be filled with such cowardice.
Sadly, sometimes these religious extremist groups don’t value the lives of women or children. They will happily use them strategically to get what they want with little to no regard for their lives. Hopefully, these little children will make it back to their families alive, and this country can find rest. We cannot imagine the pain and fear everyone feels right now. That is an evil no family should ever have to face.
