This isn’t the first time that fans have called David Beckham out for his behavior with 14-year-old daughter Harper, and it’s almost certainly not the last. After David shared a new photo with Harper on Instagram this week, people are accusing him of posing “inappropriately” with her. But is this actually an inappropriate moment caught on camera, or are people reading too much into what should just be an innocent moment between father and daughter?
David’s special rose was unveiled this week.
When the Chelsea Flower Show kicked off in London this week, a new rose that was created by breeder David Austin and named after David Beckham was unveiled for the first time. According to the BBC, David also worked with King Charles to collaborate on a display for the flower show, including his rose, the King’s Rose, and a rose named after gardener Alan Titchmarsh.
David’s rose, which has been titled the Sir David Beckham Rose, is white with pink, yellow, and gold stamens and has a fresh fragrance. Only a limited number of these roses are available, but a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the King’s Foundation. Since David’s always been all about the monarchy, there’s no doubt he’s proud of this project.
David shared a photo of him and Harper with his rose.
A new photo that David shared on Instagram showed himself and Harper posing with the rose, which is only right, since its creation was actually Harper’s idea. Since he’s recently taken up gardening, she thought it would be the perfect gift for his 50th birthday, which he celebrated last year.
“it’s such a privilege to have a gift that was so kind. She knows how much time I spend in the garden, she knows how I feel about our garden, so to find me something so special and so thoughtful — it’s just what my daughter does,” he said in a video shared by David Austin on Instagram.
It looks like a totally normal photo of a dad and his daughter… but one detail about the photo has people talking: The fact that Harper has her hand on her dad’s knee.
A debate has broken out in the comments.
Many of the comments focused on the rose and the sweet moment between Harper and David, but others didn’t try to hide that they were uncomfortable with the pose.
“The hand on the leg though?” one person wrote.
Some people agreed (one even added, “very inappropriate putting hand on leg like that”) but others were “disgusted” that someone’s mind would even go there.
“Reading something into nothing, jeez it’s bad nowadays if you can’t even sit with your dad and have human contact,” another wrote.
David doesn’t seem bothered by the comment, and he and Harper clearly have a close relationship (at least, from what we’ve gathered by following him on social media). What’s the big deal?
