What to Know
Sometimes, kids know exactly what to say to leave you speechless and, well, put you in your place. That’s what happened for one mom on Instagram, whose son quickly called out her shopping habits when she seemingly tried to get him and her husband to finish up their fishing excursion.
The son, an 11-year-old, calmly reminds his mom of the times he doesn’t rush her, like when she’s shopping for designer handbags. And really, the woman was too stunned to speak. Maybe she was surprised that he called her out. Or maybe, she knew he was 100% correct in his assessment of her and she couldn’t argue with him.
He calmly called her out for her shopping habits.
In the video the mom, whose name is Kait Davis, films her son and husband fishing off their boat. Her son calmly tells her, “We’re trying to fish. We don’t rush you out of Hermès.”
And then, the video ends. It’s basically a mic drop moment for the kid, because his point is clear. Whenever Kait shops at the luxury brand store, her husband and son let her take her time and she should do the same in this instance.
But also, homegirl is shopping at Hermès and her son even knows how to pronounce the name correctly? Clearly, this family is in another tax bracket than many of us can relate to, even if the son’s calm snark is so relatable. And really, you have to hand it to both Kait and her husband for raiding a kid who can reasonably advocate for himself while also clocking his mother in the best way.
The mom knew she didn’t have a leg to stand on.
Kait wrote in the caption of her video that she was “speechless” at her son’s response. And her husband, who is also in the video, doesn’t add anything, though he doesn’t really need to. In this case, the 11-year-old did the leg work for him so he didn’t have to remind his wife of her own hobbies where she takes her good ole time.
“Dad just smiling ’cause his boy saved him from an argument,” one user commented on the Instagram video.
Another agreed, “That came straight from the dad’s brain and out the son’s mouth.”
If the husband had said it, Kait might have had a more visceral response. But, it seemed, hearing it from her son sort of put her in her place, if only temporarily.
“There ain’t nothin you can say now ma’am,” another user commented.
And for some people, even if it was a moment to give some back pats to the kid for, it isn’t necessarily relatable for everyone.
“If I said this to my mom I woulda been lost at sea,” someone joked.
A user chimed in with, “I say the same thing, except instead of Hermès, I say Wal-Mart.”
Her son was commended for rightfully clocking her.
Relatable or not, Kait’s video had other parents and just Instagram users in general celebrating the preteen for clocking his mom in such a nonchalant way. There was no disrespect or curse words. Instead, he reached inside for the ammo he knew would make sense and he came for her.
“I would’ve been silent the rest of the day,” a user joked in the comments.
Another pointed out, “And you know what the tone was respectful.”
It could have gone a totally different way. But the kicker here is that, clearly, the 11-year-old was 100% right with what he told his mom and she knew it. Otherwise, she might have cut that fishing trip short right then and there.
“You know what…,” a user wrote. “that young man has a valid point.”
