Body Cam Captures Heart-Stopping Moment California Police Officer Pulls Sobbing Suicidal Teen From Highway Overpass

TRIGGER WARNING: This post contains information about suicide, which may be triggering to some.

First responders put their own lives at risk daily to save others. Firefighters, police, and paramedics never know what the day may bring, but they face each challenge with bravery. On May 6, 2026, police in California received multiple calls about a person on a highway overpass who appeared to be suicidal. The unidentified individual reportedly looked ready to jump, and Sacramento police officers responded to the scene. Heart-stopping body cam footage shows the moment officers saved the young woman from what could have been a deadly situation.

Police grabbed the juvenile to keep her safe.

Body cam footage posted on Facebook shows officers rushing to the scene with sirens blaring. When they arrive, we see the unidentified juvenile sitting on an overpass bridge with her feet dangling. An officer grabs her from behind and pulls her to safety. It all happens in a flash, and although it looks as if it might have been painful for both to hit the ground, it was certainly worth it to save a life.

“On May 6, SPD officers responded to reports of a person leaning over the railing of a freeway overpass near Northgate Blvd and Interstate 80. When officers arrived, they found a juvenile hanging from the guardrail and were able to safely pull her back to safety,” police shared on Facebook.

The girl sobbed as the officer helped her up from the ground.

The audible cries from this young woman tell a very powerful story. It’s unclear why her heart ached so badly that day, but we can hear her pain.

So could the compassionate officer who helped save her life. He consoled the girl and kindly said, “I got you. You’re OK. I got you.” At that point in time, that may have been just what she needed to hear.

Police thanked the community for its concern.

This girl’s life was undoubtedly saved thanks to the love and compassion of the Sacramento community. If no one had called 911 for help, this story might have ended much differently.

“Thank you to the community members who reported this critical situation, and to the dispatchers and officers whose quick response helped prevent a tragedy,” police added in the post.

These kinds of situations take a team effort, and we’re sure that this person’s family feels very grateful for everyone who helped get her to safety.

The community also thanked first responders.

Seeing the young woman in such a scary situation pulled at many people’s heartstrings who saw the Facebook post. They just wanted her to feel their love.

“Oh honey… Her pain breaks my heart. Thank God they saved her, and I pray she gets the help she needs,” one person wrote.

“That sob broke my mama heart into pieces. Thank you for being there and your comforting words,” another person commented.

That day, an entire community banded together to save a young person’s life. Hopefully, she will see how many people care and want her to live. May that give her heart a bit of the peace and healing it needs.
