People Think Kate Middleton Has a Habit of Wearing Bridal Colors to Other People’s Weddings

When it comes to fashion, Kate Middleton’s outfits are almost always impeccable… but a lot of people are truly up in arms about her latest wedding guest ensemble. After she turned up to a royal family wedding in a cream colored dress, some critics are convinced that she did it on purpose to take away from the bride, especially since this wasn’t the first time she’s worn something like this to a wedding.

Much of the royal family — including Kate, Prince William, and the king and queen — were in attendance for Peter Phillips’ wedding to Harriet Sperling. According to People, the wedding was held at All Saints Church in a village called Kemble in Gloucestershire, England.

For the occasion, Kate wore a cream colored Roland Mouret dress and a coordinating hat, which is a pretty typical outfit for the Princess of Wales. Even knowing that, though, some people took serious issue with the color of her dress.

A post on Reddit attempted to call Kate out for wearing a dress that’s so close to the color white at a wedding — a big no no.

Sharing a photo of Kate from Peter’s wedding, the OP wrote, “Kate is seemingly obsessed with wearing dressing in bridal colours at other royal brides’ weddings. She did this at Meghan’s and now again at Harriet’s. It’s giving Camilla.”

Others didn’t take issue with the color of Kate’s dress so much as they did her entire look in general.

One person wrote, “I don’t know if this dress is ‘white’ enough to say anything. She looks rough though. Wow.”

The rules are a bit different for royals.

While any color remotely close to white would at least be frowned upon at a wedding in the US, that’s not necessarily the case in the UK, or when the royals are involved.

People reported that Kate typically wears outfits she’s already been spotted in before when she goes to weddings, since that would keep the attention off of her and on the bride where it belongs, but this time, she did something different and wore a new dress.

Still, she did follow the royal tradition of wearing a light colored dress, which was started by Queen Elizabeth, who wore white when she attended Charles and Camilla’s wedding in 2005. (And for the record, Camilla was also wearing a cream dress to this shindig over the weekend.

Hello! magazine also pointed out that cream is perfectly acceptable for royals to wear if the wedding they’re attending isn’t the person’s first. In this case, it was Peter’s second wedding after his 2021 divorce from Autumn Phillips.

As one Redditor wrote, nobody’s going to mistake Kate for the bride, which is the most important thing. If someone wasn’t okay with sharing a bit of spotlight, they probably wouldn’t invite so many royals!
