For parents who have kids in high school who are feeling a little weary about their teens interacting with a large group of students from a variety of age cohorts and walks of life, the way this story unfolds shows how sometimes it’s the ones in positions of power who you really need to worry about.
A twenty-five-year-old teacher in Georgia is facing multiple charges, including child molestation, after she sexually abused several students who were allegedly blackmailing her when they found out she had an OnlyFans account to try and get a better grade. This is seriously messed up on so many levels.
A 25-year-old Georgia teacher has been accused of engaging in sex acts with several students.
According to Atlanta News First, a teacher named Maris Nichols from Alexander High School in Douglasville, Georgia, faces multiple charges after arrest warrants have revealed that she’s had sex with several students at her school.
People reported that Nichols was initially arrested in May on charges of sexual assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority, as she’s been accused of having sex with students on multiple occasions. One of the times was reportedly in a school closet and another time was at a golf course in the backseat of a truck, per the magazine.
New warrants have revealed that the high school teacher also had sex with a different student on May 3 and sent inappropriate videos and photos to several other victims, Atlanta News First reported.
Some of the details of the sexual encounters are truly disturbing.
Atlanta News First reported that there were several inappropriate messages sent from Nichols’ phone to several students. One of the items found was a video of Nichols having sex with a student while wearing a sweater that said ‘Jesus Loves You,’ per the news outlet.
Sickeningly enough, footage of Nichols’ sexual encounters with students began to circulate the school community, according to Atlanta News First.
Previous court filings also found that Nichols made a female student watch Fifty Shades of Grey, which is a film involving many sexually explicit scenes involving role-play and BDSM, People reported. The teacher also sent text messages to male students where she told them that “she liked to be choked, screamed at, slapped, and whipped during sexual encounters,” per the magazine.
No student should ever have to learn or be exposed to such things from their teacher.
Authorities have found that the students involved allegedly blackmailed their teacher for better grades.
Police have found that the students who Nichols was engaged with sexually tried to use proof of their encounters to blackmail the teacher into giving them better grades with threats that they would leak videos from her OnlyFans account, Atlanta News First reported.
Even though this adds a whole new twisted layer of context to this case, Keith Scott, who lives near Alexander High School, doesn’t find the students’ behavior very shocking. “Maybe not surprising, cause that’s how high school kids think. ‘Maybe I can turn this into a better grade.’ The damage is done. She can’t get blackmailed ’cause it’s already out,” Scott told Atlanta News First.
A lot of people discussing the case on this Reddit thread also don’t seem to excuse the teacher’s inappropriate and abusive behavior just because her OnlyFans page was threatened to be exposed. One person shared, “I’m having trouble envisioning a situation where someone thinks the appropriate response to a blackmail scheme is to commit statutory rape.”
Another person in the thread defended how even underpaid teachers need to keep things legal and safe for all their students, even if the minors are trying to behave otherwise. They wrote, “My wife is a teacher. Definitely underpaid. But, that teacher could have done several things to deal with the issue, instead of statutory raping those kids. Adult vs children.”
There’s certainly a discussion that may need to occur about teachers being so vastly underpaid that they need to take on other opportunities to make money, but that certainly doesn’t excuse or undermine all of the abusive and criminal sexual acts this teacher performed.
