Tate McRae Was Asked About Her Politics & Her Answer Has Fans More Divided Than Ever

As much as we all need to come together for the common good, there still seems to be a clear political divide right now. Since the world is filled with so much turmoil, a celebrity’s politics is something that a lot of people are noting and using as a reason to support them or not.

After a recent interview, singer Tate McRae is facing some backlash after trying her best not to reveal too much information about where she stands politically when asked about her duet with suspected MAGA supporting singer, Morgan Wallen. Tate did speak up about a certain aspect that may or may not help people to see where she might align, but some folks online are still not convinced.

Tate McRae remains fairly tight-lipped about her politics even after her duet with the controversial, Morgan Wallen.

In a recent interview with Variety, best-selling musical artist, Tate McRae opened up about some things while still leaving a lot of things on the table open for speculation. One of those things is the very hot button topic about where she stands politically in this climate that forever needs those fighting for democracy.

After her chart-topping duet with Morgan Wallen for the song “What I Want” came out, the internet jumped to the conclusion that Tate might just fall into the category of a MAGA supporter, similar to the rumors of the continually questionable country singer she collaborated with.

When asked why Tate routinely treads lightly when getting involved in any sort of political conversation, she told Variety, “I like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour. I think it’s pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I’m putting my energy towards.”

The entertainment outlet reported that last year Tate shared a TikTok advertising a hoodie for sale with proceeds that would go towards The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that focuses on preventing suicide in LGBTQ+ youth, and Global Fund For Women. Which is all well and good, but do those kinds of charitable donations actually speak for themselves in the larger sense?

People online are saying that all she had to do was be clear and straightforward here.

Another thing that has led some Tater Tots astray — which is the name Tate McRae’s fans came up with — is who she’s likely romantically involved with and how that can speak to someone’s politics.

Variety reported that even though the singer hopes to keep things “as sacred and private as possible,” being linked to the New Jersey Devils center, Jack Hughes, who very famously was caught laughing at a sexist joke Donald Trump made during a congratulatory call to the Olympic hockey team earlier this year, has also made her fanbase think twice.

It turns out that speaking out about donating to LGBTQ+ organizations is simply not enough for fans in this stark political climate. People are really looking for celebrities and public figures to spell things out for them, which is totally fair.

One person on X reposted a blurb about Tate’s latest interview with Variety and said, “celebrities are so annoying. donating to an LGBTQ+ organization for a tax write-off to make you look better isn’t honorable. “i say my piece through the organizations i support” but you can’t publicly speak on those causes? sorry but it’s MAGA until proven innocent with you girl.” They have a valid point.

Some are saying that Tate doesn’t want to disrupt her cash flow that streams in from MAGA supporters.

The online discourse is fully buzzing about this, especially from those who really don’t understand why someone like Tate wouldn’t use her words to verbally confirm that she does not support the MAGA movement.

This Reddit thread is filled with folks who can’t quite wrap their minds around why Tate wouldn’t just use this opportunity to finally put the rumors to rest. One person in the thread wrote, “If it’s “pretty obvious” just say it then babe. Why are you dancing around it and feigning obliviousness?” Another person shared, “I would be absolutely horrified if someone thought I was MAGA and would shut that down immediately.”

There’s also some online chatter about how Tate may be remaining pretty tight-lipped to prevent from alienating any of her right wing fans. One person on X shared their thoughts about the singer’s seemingly neutral soundbite. They wrote, “pr speak for “I’m not personally MAGA but I still wanna leave the door open to make as much MAGA money as possible.”

Another individual on X commented on how if Tate actually divulged her true political beliefs publicly, she might upset people like her rumored boyfriend and any other MAGA supporters within her circle. They wrote, “Sounds like she’s liberal, but doesn’t want to say or do anything that might upset her conservative boyfriend or family members. Which unfortunately is the stance of many white women.”

What are your thoughts on this? Does Tate need to stop skirting around the issue here or is she entitled to remain cryptic on some things as a singer just trying to make money?
