If you came of age in the early 2000s, you are already well familiar with the great debate of our time: Team Edward or Team Jacob? You couldn’t be a Twilight fan without picking which one you wanted Bella Swan to end up with, and it’s no surprise that it sounds like Robert Pattinson was Team Edward all the way. He made a bit of a dig at his former costar Taylor Lautner’s character in a new interview, and people are absolutely cracking up at this.
Robert made a comparison between The Odyssey and Twilight.

In Twilight, Robert famously played hot vampire Edward Cullen who was posing as a teenager even though he was actually over 100 years old. His role in The Odyssey is a little different — he plays Antinous, who is actually quite evil.
Still, Robert was able to make a comparison to the movie franchise that made him famous while talking to MTV UK on the red carpet of the premiere for the movie.
“How fun is it to play a character that everyone is not rooting for?” the reporter asked him.
Robert replied, “I think they will be rooting for him. I can compare him to… It’s kind of like Jacob in Twilight. What The Odyssey is about is Penelope just can’t make her mind up between two guys and I’m just trying to help her make a decision.”
Robert added, “It’s like it’s fine, he’s dead, get over it.”
Oh, okay.
People are loving his comment.
The connection there is definitely a stretch, but it’s not lost on fans that Robert did what he does best: He saw a time when he could bring up Twilight and seize it.
“Robert Pattinson being Robert Pattinson’s biggest fan,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “He was so pleased with himself with that comment.”
Another person pointed out that Robert actually wasn’t that far off with his comparison: “To be fair, ‘he’s dead get over it’ really is Jacob for the entirety of New Moon.”
So far, there’s no word on how Taylor Lautner feels about it.
Robert has never missed a single opportunity to dunk on the Twilight franchise.
Many a compilation video has been made of Robert very deliberately trashing the franchise over the years — including during interviews where he was supposed to be actively promoting the movies as they came out.
One of the all time greats? When he once said, “You always get weirdos like Edward who seem to attract women for some reason. If Edward wasn’t a fictional character and you met him in reality he is like one of those guys who would probably be an axe murderer or something.”
Can’t fault the guy for being honest!
