Schools take student and staff safety extremely seriously. Most have security systems and protocols in place to keep intruders out of the buildings. Even those who don’t have nefarious intentions have to follow the rules.
It makes sense to keep everyone accountable to the same safety standards. Unfortunately, there are people who don’t like to play by the rules and feel that they don’t apply to them. Florida mom Lynesia Dorsey found herself in jail after allegedly assaulting a teacher at her daughter’s school because they wouldn’t let her get the child’s backpack.
The incident occurred during the first week of school.
According to court documents obtained by Law & Crime, Dorsey arrived at Turie T. Small Elementary School in Daytona around 2:30 p.m. on August 13, 2026. She allegedly approached her daughter’s teacher after school let out and wanted to get into the building to look for her child’s backpack.
Per school protocol for the first week, the teacher reportedly denied the mother entry “due to all staffing being needed to ensure the safety of the students.”
Dorsey evidently didn’t like the teacher’s resistance.
The teacher reportedly stood their ground at the door and would not let Dorsey in. The school principal tried to hold Dorsey back, but she allegedly began to punch both the teacher and the administrator.
According to court documents, school surveillance caught the violent interaction on camera. A school resource officer eventually broke up the fight, and both school employees and Dorsey had minor injuries.
Daytona Beach Mugshots posted Dorsey’s photo on Facebook along with her charges. The story surprised some people.
The mother’s actions didn’t add up for many people.
“This my dawg bruh wtf who pissed her off to this point,” a follower claiming to know Dorsey wrote. “She is the sweetest person ever y’all somebody had to have done something to her.”
Others cannot believe that a parent would act out like Dorsey allegedly did.
“The first week of school?! Over a backpack issue?? Ma’am, we JUST got here! There had to be a better way to handle that,” someone wrote.
This person had a bit of advice for Dorsey and every parent sending a child back to school this year. They reminded all adults that it’s important to lead by example.
“If you believe that your child is an angel, then trouble will be right at your doorstep. My advice for parents is to listen to your child and to the teacher. If you believe that something is wrong, go to the proper authorities. Do not behave as judge, jury, and enforcer. Not a good way to proceed. Regardless of the situation, keep your hands firmly to yourself,” the comment reads.
Dorsey apparently admitted her aggression.
Per Law & Crime, Dorsey told police that she attacked the teacher because she felt he “leaned on” her and her daughter. The mother had a cut on her wrist and elbow following the altercation, but that didn’t stop police from arresting her.
Officers took her to the Volusia County Jail, where she posted a $5,000 bond. She’s due in court on September 8.
