Meghan Markle has always been an animal lover, so why are there reports that she’s not planning to bring her pets along to the UK with her as she and Prince Harry move back across the pond?
That’s the question a lot of people are asking right now after a new report claims that the couple will be leaving some of their pets behind in the US, and not only are her critics not surprised, but they also claim this is a pattern for her.
Meghan and Harry are reportedly only bringing a few pets to the UK.
According to Hello! magazine, Meghan and Harry are planning on bringing their dogs, Pula and Mila, to live in the UK with their family, but their feathered friends are reportedly staying behind.
If you follow Meghan on Instagram (or watched With Love, Meghan on Netflix) you already know about her coop of backyard chickens, and unfortunately, they will be remaining in the US. The magazine claims that “staff” will be caring for them in Meghan and Harry’s absence.
She’s being called out for her “pattern” of alleged animal neglect.
In response to this report, people on X are disgusted with Meghan and Harry, with one even going so far as to call them “animal abusers.”
“How many dumped animals is this now?” another person asked. “She has a pattern.”
“If those chickens were family pets to her young children, how could she just leave them in CA when they are moving to the UK?” one person asked. “That is very unfair to the kids to have their pets taken from them.”
Meghan did rehome her dog Bogart before moving to the UK when she and Harry got married, and instead, he stayed in Canada, living with Meghan’s friends. In his memoir, Harry wrote that Bogart had “been so traumatized by the siege of her house, by the constant ringing of the doorbell” that he had turned too aggressive to make the trip.
The couple has already arrived in the UK.
On Wednesday morning, People reported that Meghan and Harry had landed in the UK. Though there’s no word on which pets did or did not return with them definitively, but they did reportedly fly private, which could have made the trip a bit easier on any animals who did join them.
It does make sense to take the dogs and leave the chickens if they’re going to be in good hands back home — after all, flying to another country could very well be traumatic for them. And if Meghan and Harry are planning on making a return to their home in the US on a regular basis, it’s not like they’ll never see them again.
