A West Virginia mother seemingly wanted to help another mother recovering from childbirth and offered to care for the woman’s 11-day-old baby boy. Taylor Flint, 25, reportedly allowed her 3-year-old daughter around the newborn baby in October 2025. Flint’s daughter allegedly had a history of violent behavior and attacked the baby while in her mother’s care.
Flint rushed the infant to the hospital, where staff contacted the Point Pleasant Police Department about the infant’s injuries. They ultimately arrested Flint, who pleaded guilty to child neglect charges. She’ll spend up to 15 years in prison for her crime.
Flint reportedly had her daughter with her while watching the infant despite past issues with aggression.
Law & Crime reported the infant’s mother gave birth on October 14, 2025, and was still in the hospital 11 days later. Flint volunteered to care for the baby boy, and her 3-year-old daughter was at home with her.
The mother told police she reportedly went to sleep and found the baby unresponsive in a bassinet when she awoke to use the bathroom. She allegedly found her daughter “in the bedroom hiding in a corner.” Flint told investigators she believed her toddler beat the infant with a bottle of petroleum jelly.
The investigation began on October 25.
According to court documents obtained by WOWK, when police arrived at the hospital, they observed the unidentified infant who “exhibited distress” with “multiple traumatic injuries.” The infant reportedly had multiple injuries to the head, face, and hands, along with internal head injuries and skull fractures.
Staff attempted to resuscitate the newborn but could not save his life. Flint reportedly told police she knew to be “cautious” with her daughter around the newborn because she’d hit, scratched, and bitten the baby to get attention. The mother claimed her child had “undiagnosed neurological disorders,” Law & Crime reported.
Flint’s family defended her on social media.
Fred Wray, Flint’s father, shared support for his daughter on Facebook.
“I want my daughter Taylor Flint to know dad loves u so much and I’m here baby god help us through this ruff time,” he wrote.
Her mother, Amy Wray, agreed, writing, “She didn’t do this she dont deserve this at all she is a good person with a heart of gold and she would never hurt a baby or anyone for that matter she is a very good mother she has never done drugs she dont drink alcohol so they are making her out to be someone she is not…her kids is her life and she took care of her kids.”
Flint pleaded guilty to child neglect resulting in death.
Flint, who has no prior criminal history, pleaded guilty to the baby boy’s death. A judge sentenced her to three to 15 years in prison. She will be placed on a child abuse and neglect registry and will have extended supervision for 20 years.
Flint apologized in court, but a judge felt it prudent to hold her accountable for the infant’s death. Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Seth Gaskins told WOWK that Flint’s
“It’s not a defense to say that I did my best, unfortunately,” Gaskins said. “We owe these children more than that.”
Flint will receive credit for 151 days served.
