What to Know
There’s no point in denying that Kourtney Kardashian has changed in the years since Travis Barker came into her life — that’s what happens when you meet someone and blend your lives and families together.
But after rumors that Kourtney has changed so much for Travis that she no longer spends time with her family, the 47-year-old reality star has decided to set the record straight.
Kourtney’s longtime friend brought the situation to her attention.
Thanks to the previews of the show’s eighth season, we already know that Kourtney’s sisters are upset that they haven’t seen her as often as they once did, and at one point, Kim told Khloé that Kourtney “doesn’t know how to have friends, hang out with sisters, it’s sad.”
On this week’s season premiere, longtime family friend Simon Huck sat down with Kourtney and told her that her family thinks “Travis has taken you.”
When Kourtney asked if he meant “kidnapped,” Simon replied, “That, like, he’s shielding you from the family.”
Amid all the drama between Kourtney and her family in recent years (particularly Kim), there is definitely some distance there, but on the show, she confirmed that the distance is her doing, not Travis’. “I’m doing it, it’s definitely me,” she said.
She thinks Travis’ personality doesn’t mesh well with her family.
According to Kourtney, some of the weirdness between Travis and her family could be because he’s just so different from them — and, even more so, different from Scott Disick, her ex.
“He’s just a more introverted personality than what they’re used to,” she said. “He also, like, doesn’t need them, where Scott, like, wants to be the sixth Kardashian sister.”
Okay, that’s true. But really, is anyone in the world who Kourtney could possibly be with ever going to mesh with the Kardashians the way that Scott did so effortlessly? Probably not. They haven’t been together for years, and he’s still in the family circle.
It’s all part of her journey since starting therapy.
During their conversation, Kourtney told Simon about something her therapist said after watching an episode of The Kardashians in which Kourtney told Khloé she struggles to relate to her family.
“I almost started crying, because she was like, ‘I happened to catch a part of your show, where you were having that talk with Khloe,'” Kourtney said. “And she said, ‘I was so proud of the way that you spoke, and the way that you expressed your feelings. And you really just got to the point, and you were direct and honest.’”
The season is just getting started, though, and no matter what Kourtney says, that distance between her and her sisters seems likely to become a recurring theme. So far, it’s too soon to tell whether Travis will truly end up caught in the crossfire.
