Showing off a huge wedding rings and glamorous gowns in front of 1,000 plus guests isn’t everyone’s ultimate choice when it comes to their wedding day. Some celebs have been targets of paparazzi shots and caused quite an impression on the red carpets, but when the wedding bells were ringing, they decided to keep it casual.
Though we might have seen them rocking stadiums or appearing in a Marvel production, there’s a group of stars who opted to stay close-lipped when it came to their wedding ceremonies.
We don’t blame celebs for wanting to keep certain aspects of their lives private. From Ariana Grande’s recent wedding news to Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s super private ceremony in 2008, these are the celebs who decided to tie the knot quietly.
Ariana Grande & Dalton Gomez
Ariana Grande surprised everyone in mid-May 2021 when news broke that she had tied the knot with real estate agent Dalton Gomez. Ariana's rep told People magazine that the ceremony was “tiny and intimate” at the couple’s home in Montecito, California. Ariana and Dalton began their relationship in January 2020 and announced their engagement in December.
Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner got married in the Las Vegas chapel after the Billboard Music Awards in 2019. The couple commemorated their two-year anniversary by sharing never-before-seen footage of their wedding. Despite the fact that Diplo livestreamed everything on Instagram, Sophie revealed in an interview with Porter magazine that the original intent was to keep everything behind closed doors.
Meghan Markle & Prince Harry
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry united a worldwide audience during the official royal wedding. But during their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said they exchanged vows in private days before the televised ceremony. Despite the claims that the secret wedding didn’t actually happen based on the couple’s marriage certificate, a spokesman for the royal family clarified to the The Daily Beast that it wasn’t an official/legal ceremony.
Beyoncé & Jay-Z
Queen B and Jay-Z have always kept their relationship out of the public eye. On April 1, 2008, the couple requested a marriage license at a courthouse in Scarsdale, New York. Even though the time and place were a mystery, media outlets kept an eye on the upcoming ceremony. On April 4, the 70,000 flowers in front of Jay-Z’s luxe penthouse, a massive tent, and A-lister celebs arriving at the penthouse confirmed the highly anticipated news. Pictures of the wedding were only shared six years later!
Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost
Scarlett Johansson made her secret wedding announcement through social media. The Black Widow actress shared that she and Colin Jost were newlyweds in a post through the Meals on Wheels America Instagram page. The post also said that the couple’s greatest wedding wish would be for the fans to donate to the organization.
Hilary Duff & Matthew Koma
Younger star Hilary Duff and her long-time boyfriend Matthew Koma tied the knot in the backyard of their Los Angeles home. Hilary shared a pic of them wearing their wedding rings during their honeymoon, and pictures of the wedding were also shared on her account later. The couple already had a daughter together before their engagement, and in 2021 they welcomed another daughter into the family.
Ed Sheeran & Cherry Seaborn
Ah, isn’t it lovely to see high school sweethearts getting hitched! Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn attended the same school and reconnected years later. The couple got married during Christmastime at Ed’s country house in Suffolk, England, in 2019. According to The Sun, no more than 40 people attended the ceremony. In 2020, the “Perfect” singer announced on social media that he and Cherry became parents of a baby girl named Lyra.
Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos
It is no secret that Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are match made in heaven. After playing a couple on-screen in All My Family, they decided to marry in Las Vegas without any proper attire. Kelly even shared that her wedding gown was a dress she already owned and used to wear all the time. This year they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
Justin Hartley & Sofia Pernas
Justin Hartley’s divorce from Chrishell Stause after 13 years together shocked the internet. Following the break, the This Is Us actor began a relationship with former costar Sofia Pernas. The two were together for a year before making their marriage announcement official during the 2021 MTV Movie Awards.
Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux
Even though the hype behind Jennifer Aniston’s first marriage to Brad Pitt continues to reverberate to this day, her second one also made headlines in 2015. Jennifer and Justin Theroux tied the knot in their Bel Air home in a ceremony that was disguised as Theroux’s birthday party. Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox, John Krasinski, and Billy Crudup were a couple of the celebs that attended the wedding. Despite the fact that the couple parted ways two years later, Justin revealed that they remain close friends.
Lily Allen & David Harbour
Another couple who wed in Las Vegas made it on the list! Stranger Things actor David Harbour and singer Lily Allen got married in the Nevada County Clerk’s Office in 2020. Before the wedding, the two maintained a long-distance relationship with Harbour living in the US and Allen living in the UK with her two daughters, Ethel and Marnie.
Gisele Bündchen & Tom Brady
There aren’t many couples who say “I do” more than once. Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady are part of the exception. The couple had a secret wedding in 2009 at the Santa Monica Catholic Church only a month after their engagement. The experience was so positive that they decided to make a second ceremony in Costa Rica a month later. Only 25 guests were present at the tropical wedding, which made it equally as private.
Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have been through many ups and downs together. The couple has been open about their trajectory, including their intimate ceremony in the Beverly Hills courthouse in 2013. On CBS Sunday Morning in 2016 Bell shared some pics of the wedding and stated that it was one of the best days of her life.
Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds
Though the Gossip Girl alum and the Deadpool star decided to keep their wedding private (they’ve never released any photos from their big day) it was reportedly incredibly romantic. Florence Welch even sang during their reception.
Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher

Though they bonded while starring together on That '70s Show from 1998 to 2006, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher didn’t get married until the summer of 2015. Little has been shared about their July 4 ceremony to this day. In an interview with W magazine before she and Ashton tied the knot, Mila said that she never envisioned herself getting married, but her relationship with Ashton changed her mind.
