Brrr! No one (not even royals) is immune to the frigid air that rolls around once November hits. The royal family spends most of their time in England, and the gloomy weather there can sometimes be a little too much to handle, but luckily there are no royal protocols against bundling up for the weather. In fact, the royals have sported some of the best winter outfits we've ever seen (we're looking at you, Kate Middleton), and we have all the proof we need to know that this family is not afraid to block out the chilly air with some top-notch outerwear.
Even though we're pretty sure the Princess of Wales' famous coatdresses could withstand most things, there are some weather conditions that not even the Kate's trusty style can handle. Just like Kate, Meghan Markle has always known how to put together the perfect winter outfit, but it's really special when we get to see Prince William or Prince Harry all bundled up. Normally, these men like to tough it out and just wear their suits or a light overcoat.
But sometimes, the chilly weather means that even they have to cave in and get bundled up. It doesn't happen often, but now that we've reached the season for coats and scarves, it's time to take a look back and see all the times when the royals had to ditch fashion (somewhat) in exchange for warmth.
All Coordinated

Look, we love a perfectly coordinated ensemble, and no one knows how to give us exactly what we want more than Kate Middleton. The princess somehow managed to match her hat, gloves, and clutch purse perfectly here, and we just want to know how she does it.
Classic Family Photos

Honestly, the Waleses could look like any normal family out on a winter vacation together. If we didn't know any better, we definitely wouldn't guess that everyone in this photo is in line for the British throne (except for Kate, since obviously she wasn't born into royalty).
The Fab Four

We don't know for sure just how close the Fab Four actually are these days, but we do know that when Meghan and Harry still lived in the UK, they brought their best holiday fashion to the table for their annual Christmas stroll at Sandringham. We especially love Kate's perfectly on-theme ensemble.

Tone on Tone

We know they didn't plan this, but Prince Harry's gray and black winter outfit perfectly coordinates with Meghan's all-black coat ensemble. Being all bundled up has never looked so cute, right? We also want to know how Meghan managed to keep her scarf perfectly wrapped the entire time.
Matching Accessories

If there's one thing that Kate excels at, it's matching her accessories to her outfit seamlessly. Seriously — how did she manage to find a scarf and a handbag that matched the green in her coat so perfectly?? It must be a special royal skill.
NYC Mode

Meghan is certainly no stranger to winters in the Big Apple, so she knew to go dark with her ensembles during a visit to New York. The duchess fit in with the city perfectly, and the sharp winter air didn't seem to faze her one bit. We're sure she was still cold, but she looks so cozy.
Seriously All Bundled Up

We rarely get to see William this bundled up for the winter weather, and we can honestly say that one of the many joys in life is seeing the prince in a pom-pom winter hat. Kate looked fabulous as always. Maybe they should break these hats out again this winter?
Christmas Debut

Meghan went fairly subtle for her royal Christmas walk debut in 2017, wearing a super chic camel-colored coat and a matching hat. Harry, of course, didn't stray far from what he knows best and went with his classic gray coat. They both looked warm and stylish at the same time.
William's Chic Scarf

Seriously, we rarely catch William in anything other than his usual suit, but there's just something about seeing him all bundled up in a scarf that we just can't help but love. He certainly can look chic just like his beautiful wife, who was adorably pregnant at the time this photo was taken.
Beaming in Burgundy

We just love when Kate breaks out new outerwear, and we particularly dig this burgundy coat from the princess, back when she was in her short hair phase. William, of course, went with his usual navy coat and blue scarf, but as we already know, Kate likes to keep things fresh.
Staying Warm To Greet Fans

Even in Meghan's pre-royal days, she was attracting quite the crowd at public events, so it was pretty important that she stay warm while greeting all of her fans. Luckily, she had chic and stylish coats like this wrap style to help her get the job done.
The Perfect Christmas Look

Well, we found it folks. OK, Kate found it — the perfect Christmas look. The princess was moving along in her pregnancy with Prince Louis during the 2017 Christmas walk, but that didn't stop her from breaking out this adorable holiday plaid ensemble.
An Ode to the UK

Meghan really started walking on the British side of things when she began attending official royal events with Harry, and this plaid coat was certainly one of them. It's something we definitely wish we had hanging in our closet.
Saying Farewell

Sorry, William, but like with most of her outfits, Kate has completely trumped your look. The Princess of Wales looks like a perfect winter vision in her fur-lined emerald coat and matching furry hat. She sure does like this style of hat, and we have to say it works for her.
Chilly for St. Patrick's Day

In England, it can still be pretty brisk and chilly on St. Patrick's Day, but luckily for Kate, she has the perfect collection of dark green and emerald green coats that fit the occasion. Even when she rewears a coat, she has a particular way of always making it look fresh and new.
Straight Up Blushing

We don't know what was making Meghan blush like that, but it certainly wasn't just the chilly weather. We also don't know why Meghan hasn't broken out this coat again, because it's definitely one of our favorite looks from the time before she officially married into the royal family.
A Perfect Doll

Kate looks like a doll in this huge furry hat and her light blue coat. Seriously — only Kate could make a hat like that look like something straight off of a runway, because this isn't the kind of thing just anyone could pull off. Although, knowing the princess, we shouldn't be surprised.
Ready for the Slopes

Kate and William are known to be big fans of skiing, so they are no strangers to the frigid slopes, and it looks as if they really came prepared for this royal engagement. We never thought two people could look this good in parkas, but like we've said before, these two can pull off anything.
Chic in the Rain

We really don't know how Kate managed to look this perfect and chic in the middle of a rainstorm. Fans were also quick to notice her new green coat that she broke out for this event, and her matching scarf and gloves were the perfect touch.
Matching Dark Shades

Both Meghan and Harry went with darker shades during one of Meghan's pre-royal engagements. The soon-to-be duchess was still trying out her royal style, and we think this black wrap coat with a matching scarf is a look she should certainly bring back.
Making Farm Friends

During a trip to Wales in March 2022, William and Kate stopped by Pant Farm, where they got to have a little fun visiting with the animals who live there. Being that it was nighttime at that point, it's no wonder that they pulled out their warmest accessories.
Warm & Neutral
Meghan is known for sticking mostly to neutrals, and after seeing photos like this, it's easy to see why — they look so good on her. This fully camel and brown colored outfit was what she wore when she and Harry returned to the UK from their holiday sabbatical … only to announce that actually, they were going to leave royal life behind for good.
