Almost everyone knows about the Duggar family and their strict modesty rules. The women in the 19 Kids and Counting family have to pay close attention to what they wear to not break the dress code. These rules include wearing only dresses or skirts that must go below the knee, necklines that cannot show any cleavage, covered arms, and even modest swimsuits.
But some of the Duggar daughters have grown up and decided to rewrite the rules and dress how they please. Jill and Jinger have gone against their family's teachings rules and found their own style. Jill even has a nose ring, which never would have been allowed while she was living at home. Jinger has incredible fashion sense, and still looks completely appropriate while abiding by her own dress code.
Jinger and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, moving to California a few years ago only seems to have helped encourage the former Counting On star to let her hair down and dress how she feels fit. Let's face it: Jinger is a total style icon among the Duggar family, despite breaking a few of their modesty rules.
Here are Jinger's most surprising looks that broke the family dress code while still being totally fashionable.
Blue Athletic Shorts
People were downright shocked when Jinger posted a photo in these super short athletic shorts. The Duggar family would be appalled by something hitting mid-thigh, but now that Jinger is her own independent woman, she wears whatever she wants. One fan wrote, "I like that you're wearing shorts. You look great in them! Us pregnant girls have to stick together!"
Green Maternity Dress
Jinger showed off some incredible maternity style in a gorgeous emerald dress that hit above the knee and featured a lower neckline. The green dress got lots of love in her comments, and many people planned on copying the style from Seraphine Maternity. The design cinched at the most flattering point, above her baby bump, showing off just the right amount. "Where'd you get that dress? Beautiful," one fan commented on the post.
Floral Button-Front
Even though Jinger has steered away from the dress code her mother strictly adheres to, she still prefers a modest style. She wore a girly floral button-front dress to announce her pregnancy. With this photo, Jinger announced that she and Jeremy were expecting another baby girl, and she showed off her growing bump in the embroidered dress.
Army Green Rain Jacket
Jinger wears equally feminine and masculine styles, and looked so chic in this rain jacket. So many commenters were fans of the coat, including one who wrote, "Where did you get that jacket/coat?? I NEED one!!" Now that she's living in Los Angeles, Jinger will have to take advantage of the very few wet days that exist there and pull out this stylish coat to stroll through the rain with her hubby.
Nike Athletic Wear
Jinger and Jeremy are definitely Nike fans, and during lockdown in March 2020, they kept it casual. Jinger is known for keeping her Instagram as sleek and stylish as possible, but even she showed a more low-key side to her family during that crazy time. She and Jeremy both sported Nike sweatshirts, and Jinger wore a Nike baseball cap for a shelter-in-place selfie.
Velvet Orange Coat
Everybody loved Jinger's winter style with this burnt orange coat, which she sometimes pairs with a wide-brimmed hat.
People have been so grateful for Jinger sticking up for her own style, as the Duggar dress code is seriously outdated. Showing cleavage is a big no-no in the Duggar family. Usually, the necklines are high cut, leaving everything to the imagination. Jinger has opted for a few low-cut tops and dresses, but she still keeps it totally appropriate. Jinger made quite the statement in this video Q&A wearing black skinny jeans — another fashion faux pas in the eyes of Michelle Duggar — and snakeskin flats. The Duggar sisters must always wear either dresses or skirts as part of the modesty rules. Jinger and Jill are two of the adult daughters who ditched that guideline as soon as they married and left the family.
Matching Denim Jackets
Jinger has always been close with her older sister, Jana Duggar. But now that Jinger is a married mom of two, their lifestyles are totally different. Jana is in her 30s and still unmarried — which is ancient in the eyes of the Duggars. Still, Jana came out to LA to visit her sis, and the two matched in adorable denim jackets. While Jinger opted for some comfy black jeans, Jana wore a black dress.
Short Striped Dress
On a friendly date with Jeremy and some pals, Jinger wore one of her shortest looks yet. The black-and-white striped dress hit well above her knees. In this photo, Jinger also showed off some new blond highlights when she wore the dress for the second time.

Living in California, Jinger is used to the heat by now. That hot weather means she wears a tank top every now and then. While that would have been a huge red flag in her parents' house, now that she's married, it's up to her to make that choice. "I am glad to see that she is dressing like most young people do," someone commented on her post.
Leopard-Print Wedges
While the Duggars have never been opposed to high heels, they do opt for something a little more low-key. In one episode of 19 Kids and Counting, Michelle Duggar shared that she didn't see any "modesty issues" with footwear — so at least all of the daughters can feel confident wearing whatever shoes or heels they want to. Jinger looked cute in a pair of casual wedges that matched her cute khaki dress.
Long Wedding Train
All eyes were on Jinger on her wedding day in 2016. While she maintained all of the modesty requirements as a bride, she did add one attention-stealing detail: her massive train. The white dress billowed out around her, which made her look like a princess. Attracting attention isn't exactly a part of the guidelines the sisters usually follow in the Duggar family, but they made an exception for Jinger's wedding. "The most beautiful dress of all time. Apparently, the answer to that question is "Jinger!" This might be one of her most "scandalous" looks to date — at least, in the eyes of her parents. We never thought we'd see her in denim cutoffs, despite the fact that they were the perfect choice for putting together a swingset in her own backyard.

Speaking of scandalous looks, we only wish we could have seen Jim Bob's face when he saw these photos. While fulfilling her bridesmaid duties in a friend's wedding, Jinger matched the others at the altar in a slinky spaghetti strap dress. Ooh la la!
