Nearly one month after John David and Abbie Duggar announced that they’re expecting their third baby, she’s sharing an update on her pregnancy so far — and how it’s getting better now that the symptoms of a complication she was facing are finally starting to improve.
This week, Abbie took to Instagram to show off her growing baby bump from a recent beach trip. This future mom of three looks stunning in the sunset as she poses in the sand with the ocean in the background, a red dress accentuating her bump now that she’s reached the halfway point in her pregnancy.
“A little over half way! We had a pretty rough go of it the first half and I am so thankful to be feeling much more like myself again! God is good!” she wrote in her caption.
She also added the hashtag “#hyperemesis,” referring to hyperemesis gravidarum, which Cleveland Clinic describes as “severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.” Not only is this just as unpleasant as it sounds for expectant moms, but it can also lead to weight loss, dehydration, and other side effects.
This isn’t the first pregnancy where Abbie has faced an HG diagnosis. While she was expecting her first child, daughter Grace, who is now 5, she and John David spoke to Us Weekly about how difficult it was for her to make it through the pregnancy while feeling so sick.
“It hit her hard, and she was down for probably seven weeks with severe morning sickness,” John David said at the time. “She got diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, and she was hospitalized a couple times. We made multiple visits to the ER for dehydration.”
He added, “She couldn’t eat, pretty much, or drink, or anything. So she was actually on IVs and had IVs at home. So that was a pretty scary time.”
Fortunately, according to Abbie’s caption, it sounds like she’s past the worst of it this time around and is getting to enjoy her pregnancy. Along with Grace, she and John David are also parents to 2-year-old son Charlie.
These days, Abbie is truly glowing. We can’t wait for the next update!
