Legally besieged Alec Baldwin is facing an uphill battle in the court of public opinion after appearing to make an off-color comment about his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their son Leo. The actor had to change the caption on a recent photo after people called him out over the weirdly sexual words about his wife and son. How did he not realize this would be taken the wrong way?
The photo in question was posted on Sunday.
What should've been a cute moment captured between Hilaria and her son quickly turned icky after Alec's caption appeared to allude to something suggestive.
"The old 'let me give you a back rub' ploy," he originally captioned the shot, which shows Leo seemingly rubbing his mother's shoulders.
Fans thought the comment was gross.
People assumed that Alec was referencing the old joke about how sometimes men will offer a woman a back rub in the hopes that it will lead to something more.
In most cases, this is alluding to sex, but obviously that would be highly inappropriate of the mother-son duo, which people were quick to point out.
People rushed to the comments to share their disgust.
"This caption isn't OK," one person wrote. "At all."
Another commenter made reference to Alec's legal troubles, writing, "Dude you need [to] consult your team before you post. Man this does not help your [case],"
Alec quickly updated the caption and added a bit about how their son was hoping for potato chips before turning off the comments on the photo.
Alec addressed the backlash before going radio silent.
"I adjusted the text," Alec wrote. "I guess because … you know … there is so much of that Reddit trash out there."
This was Alec's first public post since news broke he would be charged for his role in the shooting death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Alec could end up serving up to five years behind bars as a result of the accident.
Things are probably very difficult for the Baldwin family right now.
We have to imagine that Alec's post was just a case of him not thinking of how sexually inappropriate his words could seem.
It's likely he has a lot on his mind, especially now that we know he and his legal team are gearing up to fight the involuntary manslaughter charges.
Alec may just need to take a social media break for a bit and spend some extra quality time with his family before things in this legal battle really ramp up.
