What to Know
Seriously, how are we not past pitting women against each other yet? It’s all getting really tired at this point. With people simply not letting go of the It Ends With Us drama and the Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni lawsuit on everyone’s minds, it seems way too easy for a casual comment during an interview to get blown way out of proportion. Such is the case for a recent comment that actress Amanda Seyfried made while appearing on The Graham Norton Show. Social media is buzzing because they think something Amanda said is a direct dig at Blake Lively, but we’re not convinced.
Is a comment from Amanda Seyfried a direct dig at fellow actress Blake Lively?
While making an appearance on The Graham Norton Show to promote several projects, Amanda Seyfried was asked about the much discussed, Mamma Mia 3. Sitting alongside Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, and dancer Johannes Radebe, Amanda couldn’t help but crack a joke about how she jokingly “casts people everyday” to star in the highly anticipated third film.
Margot suggests that perhaps she’ll be given an executive producer credit, which Amanda unknowingly received on the 2025 hit movie,The Housemaid. Amanda goes on to say, “Honestly, if I don’t get it for the third [movie], I’ll be pretty pissed. I want it for real, but I also think, like, I don’t know anything about anything, other than I was in it.” Amanda seems so humble, doesn’t she?
This comment seems rather innocent though and doesn’t even mention Blake Lively at all. Let’s investigate further.
As usual, context is everything, especially when it comes to clearing up celebrity “shade.”
As usual, there are a few people on the X thread calling this comment direct shade at Blake Lively. One comment reads, “Most definitely & beautifully done!!! Well done Amanda Seyfried!!!” followed by a several laughing emojis.
Another individual in the comments seems to disagree though, as they state, “I promise you, it’s not … not everybody has Blake Lively living rent-free in their heads like y’all do.”
Buzzfeed has clarified things for those who didn’t make the immediate connection as people assumed it was a dig at Blake “presumably in light of Blake’s EP credit on It Ends With Us.” Blake served as executive producer on the 2024 Colleen Hoover film adaptation while Justin Baldoni served as director, and the pair famously clashed “over creative differences.”
It’s very likely that Amanda was simply joking about unknowingly receiving an EP credit on The Housemaid, which was discussed earlier in the interview, as she didn’t even know until “three weeks in.”
Amanda and Blake do have an interesting connection from a popular movie.
Everyone knows Amanda Seyfried shot to instant fame with her iconic portrayal of the confidently clueless Karen in 2004’s Mean Girls, but what if we told you that Blake Lively almost starred in her role instead?
During a video interview with Vanity Fair in 2023, Amanda told a story about her audition process for the hit teen comedy and divulged that she had actually first auditioned for the role of Regina George, which Rachel McAdams famously nailed. During her audition, Lindsay Lohan was in the room and Lacey Chabert, who played Gretchen Weiners, and Blake Lively, “who was playing Karen” at the time.
When she got home from her Los Angeles audition, casting told Amanda that she was “more correct for Karen.” Which is amazing because she completely stole every scene she was in with her unparalleled comic timing!
