Amber Portwood Spirals on Social Media After Critic Accuses Her of ‘Abandoning’ Daughter Leah

Since Amber Portwood‘s daughter, Leah Shirley, made her rift with her mom clear on Teen Mom, Amber has been more chatty than ever on social media – and it doesn’t seem like that’s necessarily a good thing. During her latest TikTok live, Amber went off on a viewer who accused her of “abandoning” Leah, and things really went downhill from there.

It all started with a commenter who wrote that Amber has ‘children she doesn’t see.’

Amber frequently chats with followers on TikTok Live, and this weekend was no different. According to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, she was live with a man (who didn’t seem to have any connection to Amber) who was reading comments from the feed out loud. When he read one that accused her of “abandoning” Leah, it really set Amber off.

“That’s not true at all. No,” Amber said in the chat. “First of all, I see all of my children. And not only that, I have an amazing relationship.”

Along with 16-year-old Leah, who lives full time with dad Gary Shirley and his wife, Kristina, Amber is also mom to 7-year-old James, who lives full time with dad Andrew Glennon.

She seems to think Leah is going through a ‘phase.’

Leah has been open about wanting her stepmom Kristina to legally adopt her, but according to what Amber said on her latest stream, it doesn’t seem like she’s taking those desires seriously.

“My daughter’s 16. She’s going through her 16 phase. We’re gonna be OK,” she said in the chat. “It’s starting to calm down a little bit anyways.”

Amber went on to affirm that she still has custody of Leah.

Amber has never implied that she would be OK signing over her parental rights to Kristina, and on the feed, she confirmed that hasn’t changed.

“Whoever is saying that I don’t have my daughter is wrong. I have joint custody of my daughter,” she said. “I was going to rehab, so I signed my rights over for [Gary] to have primary [custody]. And that was over 10 years ago.”

Leah seems to have a different perspective.

On last week’s episode of Teen Mom, Leah told her mom’s costars Maci Bookout and Catelynn Baltierra that she hadn’t seen Amber in a long time. She explained she’s put distance between herself and her mom because Amber “always turns herself into the victim of everything.”

“I think maybe she doesn’t really realize that I’m the one that has been actively not wanting a relationship with her,” Leah said on the show. “I feel like maybe I need to text her or something and let her know.”
