What to Know
When Joseph Duggar was arrested on charges related to child molestation, it was like déjà vu for the Duggar family. And for Anna Duggar, his sister-in-law, that goes double. It was her husband after all, Josh Duggar, who originally dragged the family name through mud when he was found guilty of federal charges linked to child sexual abuse material in 2021. While he remains in prison serving out his sentence, Anna remains married to him and, apparently, close to her in-laws.
During Joseph’s two weeks at the Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville, Ark., he received multiple letters from family members who wanted to share their support with him. According to E! News, one of those letters was from Anna. And, from the way she addressed Joseph in the letter to what she actually said regarding her experience with the system through Josh, people came for her pretty hard.
Anna Duggar’s letter to Joseph Duggar mentions Josh Duggar.

This isn’t Anna’s first rodeo, so she might be the biggest help for Kendra and Joseph as they navigate his charges. Hopefully for their sake, things don’t end with a 12-year federal prison sentence with Kendra raising their children on her own, a la Josh and Anna’s situation. But if Joseph is found guilty, then no one can really argue with the results of the trial.
In Anna’s letter to Joseph, she let him know she put some money on his books to help him out and she advised him to be mindful of his conversations through letters and on phone calls. She also mentions how Josh faired when he was held in the same jail before his case got serious and went to trial.
“Just remember, don’t talk about anything legal unless you are with an attorney,” Anna wrote to her brother-in-law. “Everything said in these messages, phone calls, and video chats are recorded and turned over to prosecutors. Are they keeping you in solitary, or will they let you go into a pod? Joshua’s experience there at Washington County was fairly safe. If there are any concerns for your health, or safety, please let me know.”
She added that she spoke to Kendra and that she was “amazed” to hear Kendra being clear-headed about everything. Of course, like Anna, Kendra has the full support of the Duggar family, whether she wants it or not.
Anna ended the letter with ,”Know that God is our rock, He is our fortress, He is our shelter, He is our defender, He is our strength. He will get us through whatever storms we face. Praying for ya, love ya.”
People can’t get over the way Anna addresses Joseph in her letter.
On Facebook, in a group about the Duggars, people came for Anna big time, because what else are they going to do when a Duggar scandal breaks? Anna also did herself no favors when she began the letter to Joseph with, “Bro, yo… Hey Joseph! Bro, you’ve got our prayers.” The “bro” of it all is pretty wild for those who love to hate the Duggar family and its intense religious values.
“Anna Duggar saying ‘bro, yo…’ is absolutely hilarious to me for some reason,” someone commented on the Facebook post about the jail letters to Joseph.
Another user wrote, “I thought [the] same. She’s trying to be hip, thug, and Christian.”
Someone else theorized that Josh actually wrote the letter and had Anna send it as though it was from her. Given the “bro” line, that theory does hold some weight.
“Why do I get the feeling it’s not Anna’s letter, but an email from Josh camouflaged as one?” They shared in the comment section.
Jim Bob Duggar also wrote to Joseph while he was in jail.
Joseph’s dad Jim Bob also wrote a letter to Joseph while he was in jail in Arkansas. In his e-mail, he told his son that he has “a long road” ahead of him, but that he and mom Michelle Duggar love Joseph. The more interesting line for some, however, was where Jim Bob recognized Joseph’s decisions, despite Joseph still not being found guilty of the child molestation charges.
“You have made some terrible decisions, but God has already forgiven you if you have asked him,” Jim Bob wrote. Elsewhere in the letter, Jim Bob added, without mincing words, “You are just going to have to accept the situation at this point and it’s also fine to pray that God would have mercy on you, but you’re probably gonna face major consequences for several years to come.” Ouch, that one’s gotta hurt.
