What to Know
Anne Hathaway is clearly very busy. She’s everywhere at the moment (she’s promoted five films recently), and she’s also pregnant. The fact that she has completed five press tours during this pregnancy has left some people in awe. But as some people ask “how does she manage to do all of this?” Anne is asking fans to avoid praising her for it.
Her reasoning is pretty simple: she’s a celebrity with a lot of resources and support. And she’s certainly not the only pregnant person who is working right now, either.
Anne learned she was pregnant just before the start of the “Devil Wears Prada 2” press tour.
Admittedly, she wasn’t sure how that would work out for her, but she ended up getting “really lucky,” she said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
During her first pregnancy, she experienced a lot of fatigue. This time, however, she mainly dealt with “acne” and “the craziest sense of smell” during her first trimester. At times, it definitely made the press tour a bit less pleasant because of all the unpleasant scents, but it was manageable.
“On a press tour, it’s amazing,” she said sarcastically. “It’s like this Goodfellas experience, you’re going in and out of hotels and the back ways, but you pass so many garbage bins and you go through so many kitchens, and then you go into elevators, and you smell every single room service order.”
She added, “So first trimester, my goal was to not dry-heave in public, and at third trimester my goal is to not waddle in public, so I feel like that’s a good thing!”
She continued to promote more films after this.
Most recently, she has been promoting Verity, which just came out on October 2. Although people have been seeing a lot of her lately, she vowed to disappear from the spotlight for a bit as she prepares to welcome baby No. 3. And she has seemingly held herself to that, as she shared a humorous clip on Instagram that actually showed her disappearing into thin air.
Still, people have been amazed by how hard Anne has been working while visibly pregnant. But Anne pushed back on the praise during a recent interview with AP Entertainment.
“Let’s not overpraise the pampered actress,” she said. “There’s a lot of pregnant women out there at home and in the workplace who, you know, didn’t get a manicure this morning.” She then added, “I’m very happy to do my job. I have so much support.”
And a lot of other moms really loved that she said this.

People found it refreshing to see an actress “acknowledging her privilege” in this way. Of course, what Anne has been doing does not seem easy in the slightest—but in a discussion on Reddit, many other moms pointed out that they also worked throughout their pregnancies.
“I worked up to literally when I went into labor,” one mom commented. “I really admire her work ethic but also I appreciate her acknowledging that it’s not the same as what most other pregnant women are doing!”
“I worked as a dog groomer, on my feet most of the day, until the day of my c-section,” someone else wrote. “I’m glad she said that.” Besides, some women work while pregnant or shortly after giving birth not because they want to, but because they don’t have another feasible option. “My mom went back to work a few days after having me because we don’t have any mandatory maternity leave in the US,” another commenter noted.
In a way, Anne’s comment was exactly what people needed to hear. Another person noted that they have “been waiting for 30 years for a Hollywood actress to say this.”
“It’s me, I’m pregnant and didn’t get a manicure this morning,” someone else added. “I feel so seen.”
