Apple Martin Scores Her First Movie Role & All Kinds of Nepo Baby Accusations

It’s only natural that some celebrity kids would want to follow in their famous parents’ footsteps and work in Hollywood, but at this point, it’s definitely not going to happen without people calling them out for using their connections to get ahead. Apple Martin should be celebrating her first movie role, but instead, she’s facing nepo baby accusations from people who believe she just got cast because her parents are Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

Apple’s new movie is a pretty big deal.

Deadline reported the news on May 18, revealing that Apple was one of the latest additions to the cast of Nancy Meyers’ new movie, which is currently in production. It’s bound to be a legendary movie just because Nancy Meyers happens to be involved, so this is quite a score on Apple’s part — especially for her first role ever.

The movie also already includes a pretty star-studded cast, including Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Erin Doherty, Jude Law, Owen Wilson, Tony Hale, and Beverly D’Angelo. It’s (partially) based on Nancy’s life and will be the first movie she’s made since The Intern over a decade ago, so to say this one is highly anticipated would be a huge understatement.

Earlier this year, she shared that she wants to be an actress like her mom.

This is Apple’s first movie role, but the 22-year-old hasn’t kept it a secret that she hoped to go into the family business someday just like the famous Paltrows who have come before her.

In a February interview with Vogue, Apple said that while she wouldn’t be interested in singing like her Coldplay frontman dad, she does want a career on screen. “I love dancing and I love acting. My dream is to act,” she said.

The role seems to have come at a perfect time for Apple, since she just graduated from Vanderbilt University earlier this month.

People aren’t jumping to congratulate her.

There’s no doubt that Apple and her family are excited about her new adventure, but the people of the internet? Not so much. Fortunately, she has plenty of others in her corner to remind her what really matters.

“There’s a good amount of eye rolling going on right now, as so many people are drawing the conclusion, quite understandably, that she’s only there by virtue of her famous mom and family,” a source told Star. “Gwyneth is telling Apple to just show up and give her best performance. To prove the doubters wrong.”

If she pulls this off, it could be the first role of many for another generation in the Paltrow Hollywood dynasty. If she doesn’t? She’s going to be judged even harder. That whole nepo baby thing really is a double edged sword.
