What to Know
Ben Affleck may not be the target audience for video games like Fortnite, but that hasn’t stopped him from playing it — and putting the kids he encounters in the game’s online world in their place, apparently.
While chatting with Jason and Travis Kelce on their New Heights podcast, Ben admitted to trash-talking random 12-year-olds while playing the game. Oh, and he doesn’t sound all that thrilled about the in-game transactions, either.
It sounds like Ben is a pretty shameless trash talker, to be honest.
During his appearance on the podcast on October 7, Ben admitted that the kids who typically play Fortnite aren’t always super nice to the other players in the game — him included.
“Twelve-year-olds just f— you up,” he said. “I get killed right away and they taunt you and s— like ‘You suck! F— you!’”
For some reason, it’s not nearly as surprising as it should be to hear that Ben ends up falling into this trap and “getting in arguments” with the kids that leads to trash talking them right back.
“F— you! I don’t suck,” he said. “I’m a grown man.”
Fortnite inspired the wardrobe of his new movie.
Some of the popular skins in Fortnite have inspired wardrobe choices for Ben’s new thriller, Animals, though he isn’t very happy with how much they cost when you buy them in-game, especially since his son, Samuel, is super into it.
“My son and he’s like ‘For Christmas, can you get me these real skins for Fortnite?’ But they’re 300 bucks,” he said.
Those micro-transactions really can be a killer, even though the real cost of a new set of skins on Fortnite is typically under $20. Still, it can really add up, especially if you have a kid who is a big gamer and wants to have it all.
Ben is a longtime fan of video games.

During another podcast appearance — that time, talking to Josh Horowitz on Happy, Sad, Confused — he shared how much he loves video games, from combat games to sports games like NBA 2K and Madden.
“There was a game called StarCraft that probably took the most life out of me for a period of time. I had just got famous, and all I did was stay home for three years and play StarCraft,” he said at the time.
And then, there was another game with players that seemed to get a rise out of him the same way that the kids on Fortnite do: “I love Valorant. It’s a great game. The problem with that game is that with kids that have been raised playing, I just get f—ing rocked. I’m like, ‘Are you f—ing cheating?’ And I get mad. It’s very humiliating.”
Poor Ben. Maybe he’s figured out how to hold his own since then!
