The Biggest Duggar Family Moments of 2022

There’s no doubt that 2021 will definitely go down in the books as the year that changed the Duggar family forever, considering that it ended with oldest son Josh Duggar being convicted on charges involving child sexual assault material after a jury trial. But 2022 is truly when the dust settled and the oversized 19 Kids and Counting family began living their new normal — whatever that might look like for each of them.

For many of the adult Duggar children, that meant carrying on with their own lives and milestones as usual. There were marriages, babies born, and pregnancy announcements made by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s grown kids, just like there always are. Others seemed to reevaluate what was important to them following the trial, whether that meant severing family ties that once seemed unbreakable or pulling back from social media completely.

Despite the dark cloud that now hangs over their family — and the fact that their reality TV careers are no more — so much still happened for the Duggars this year. Here are all their biggest moments from 2022.

Jana's Child Endangerment Charges

At the end of 2021 — just days after Josh’s trial came to a close — news broke that Jana had been hit with child endangerment charges after she fell asleep while babysitting and one of the kids under her care managed to wander out of the house unsupervised. In January, Jana settled the case out of court, and her guilty plea meant that she would have to pay more than $800 in fines.

John David's Plane Crash

In January, a source close to the family revealed that John David Duggar, a licensed pilot, had crashed his plane while flying with his wife, Abbie, and their toddler, Grace. Later, he released a statement on the incident.

“An emergency landing or any kind of plane crash is a scary thing, but it’s exactly what pilots are trained for,” said the statement. “We are so thankful for God’s protection, as we all walked away without injuries when this happened last October. We so appreciate the love and care so many have expressed towards us.”

Jeremiah & Hannah's Wedding

Unlike years past, there was only one Duggar wedding in 2022, and the family gathered to see Jeremiah and Hannah Wissmann tie the knot in March — just two months after they made their engagement news public. After the wedding, the couple headed off to the Bahamas for their honeymoon.

Jed & Katey Welcome Their First Child

This year was a big one for Jeremiah’s twin brother, too. Jedidiah became a first-time dad when he and wife Katey (who walked down the aisle in 2021) welcomed their first baby into the world. In May, their son, who they named Truett, was born, and the couple has shared frequent updates about him ever since.

Josh Receives His Sentence

After being granted a delay and six months of being held in protective custody, Josh was finally sentenced in his CSAM trial. A judge hit him with 12 1/2 years behind bars in a federal prison facility in Texas, along with conditions, including probation, after his release.

Jill & Derick Move to Oklahoma

This year was a big one for Jill and Derick Dillard. After Derick passed the bar exam, he began working as a lawyer, and his new job meant that he and Jill sold their family home, packed up their sons, and moved to a new home in Oklahoma. They certainly seem to be loving their new surroundings.

Jill & Derick Welcome Their Third Child

Another reason this year was big for Jill and Derick: Their family grew a little bigger, too. Shortly after their move, the couple welcomed their third son into the world, a baby boy they named Frederick. Though he did have to spend time in the NICU before coming home, the whole family seems to be doing well now.

Hannah Announces Her Pregnancy

Just five months after they got married, in August, Hannah and Jeremiah announced that they were expecting their first child. Later, they revealed that their baby is a girl, and now that they’re living in a renovated RV, they’re preparing to bring her home to their small space soon.

Jessa & Ben Finish Home Renovations

After years of squeezing their four children into a two-bedroom home, Jessa and Ben finally scored a new place to live — and they fully renovated it so that it would fit their needs and their taste. By September, they were all moved in and documenting their process for fans who subscribe to their YouTube channel.

Anna Duggar Disappears From Social Media

In early October, fans noticed that Anna had completely erased her presence from Instagram, deleting her account and years of photos of her family in the process. Of course, she hadn’t posted much since Josh’s arrest over a year earlier, so it made sense that she’d want to walk away from social media.

Josh's Lawyers File an Appeal

Around the same time that Anna’s Instagram disappeared, Josh’s legal team began the appeal process by filing a brief. At this point, it doesn’t seem like Josh is going to have much luck changing the outcome of his trial, but his lawyers seem determined to at least give it a shot.

Jinger & Jeremy Move to a New House

Looks like it was a big year for new homes in the Duggar family! The third couple to relocate this year is Jinger and Jeremy, though they stuck pretty close by. As they explained in a YouTube video, their dream home came on the market, and even though they weren’t planning to move just yet, they couldn’t help but jump on the opportunity.

John & Abbie Welcome Their Second Child

Though they are one of the couples who has been avoiding posting on social media regularly, John and Abbie did return to announce the birth of their son, Charlie, in September, sharing a photo of their family together in the process. Gracie has really grown up this year!

Joy-Anna Announces Her Pregnancy

More babies on the way! In October, Joy-Anna announced that she and husband Austin Forsyth are expecting their third child,, later revealing that their new baby will be a boy. So far, Joy’s been documenting her pregnancy in YouTube videos and Instagram posts, and she seems over the moon.

Jinger Reveals Her Tell-All Book

In a move that is likely to shock her parents, Jinger ended her year by announcing her tell-all book, Becoming Free Indeed. She shared that she felt compelled to write the book when she realized that the religion she grew up in was “damaging” and wanted to speak out about what her experience getting out of the IBLP had been like.
