Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani Reportedly ‘Derailed’ Their Potential Return to ‘The Voice’

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani‘s romance began when they first met on the set of The Voice in 2014, so it would make total sense if they returned as coaches for the show’s milestone 30th season, which premieres in September. Apparently, the powers that be who work behind the scenes at the show did try to make it happen, but the negotiations reportedly fell apart thanks to something that went wrong on Blake and Gwen’s side. What was it?!

A source claims The Voice really wanted Gwen and Blake back for the upcoming season.

With Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson already on deck, NBC was reportedly very interested in bringing Gwen and Blake back for a reunion, according to what a source told The Sun. With their last season as coaches together airing in 2023, it’s been a minute since fans have seen them on the show together, and what better time to reunite them than season 30?

Unfortunately, in the end, they just couldn’t make it happen.

“The network made generous offers. Blake and Gwen even made sure their Summer tours carved out enough time in late Summer so they were able to make the filming schedule work,” the source claimed. “Something on Blake and Gwen’s side derailed all of that and they decided not to return to the show.”

Their schedules reportedly had nothing to do with it.

The source didn’t share any details about what caused the negotiations to fall through, other than it having nothing to do with the singers’ schedules. They added, “It was not NBC’s decision, they wanted Blake and Gwen back and would still welcome them with open arms.”

It’s hard to say exactly what might have gone wrong to make the couple back out at the last minute, though there have been plenty of rumors recently that Gwen and Blake’s marriage may be in trouble.

It also seemed like Blake was truly ready to put The Voice behind him when he walked away from the gig after season 23. At the time, Gwen told Extra, “it’s a lot of brain power, it’s a lot of time away from the family, those kinds of things. I think he just got to a point where he just wants time in his ranch, like time to just do the other things that he loves to do.”

Fans don’t seem too disappointed with the final coaches lineup, though.

While some fans may have been hopeful that season 30 would bring Blake and Gwen back together, the final lineup — which includes country singer Riley Green and the legendary Queen Latifah — seems to have people truly excited.

“Queen Latifah and Kelly together… Can’t wait!” one fan commented on The Voice‘s Instagram post announcing the news, while another wrote, “I will be joining Team Queen immediately!”
