What to Know
When Donald Trump was ready to officially roll out Trump Accounts, he did so by inviting not only the press, but also a gaggle of young kids to the Oval Office. Then, a clip surfaced on social media, including on X (formerly Twitter), which shows the kids sitting or laying down on the floor and even, in some cases, falling asleep.
When it comes to being bored to the point of passing out in the Oval Office, these kids are pretty relatable for plenty of Americans. It’s not totally clear who the kids actually are, or how Trump came to have them in attendance for the press to photograph as props for his agenda regarding the Trump-lead savings accounts put into place for children.
The meeting was about Trump Accounts.

In the photo posted on X, Trump speaks at a podium in the Oval Office with officials behind him in support. In the foreground, however, there is a group of children on the carpet who appear to be bored out of their minds. Honestly, it’s hard not to empathize with them at this moment. But the kids are forced to tough it out as props for Trump’s promotion of the Trump Accounts.
The accounts are meant to accrue interest over time to set children up financially for adulthood. According to the White House, more than 6 million accounts were requested ahead of the program’s official rolling out. But that doesn’t mean kids understand or even care about Trump Accounts at this point. If we need any proof of that, we can once again see exhibit A, which is the kids either napping or rolling their eyes while sitting on the floor of the Oval office.
One person commented on the photo in the X post, “Those little kids give me hope for the future of America.”
Someone else joked about how the exchange might go between one of the kids as their parent. The user wrote, “We’re bored, can we go home now?” followed by, “No, we need you for the political image to make them think this is really about children, but it’s just another grift.”
It probably wasn’t the plan for the kids to sit down and for some to nap.
@cbsnews Kids joined President Trump in the Oval Office on Monday as part of an event promoting the launch of his administration's new Trump Accounts, designed to help families invest for their children. The group grew restless after standing and eventually sat on the floor of the Oval Office. Trump also remotely rang the opening bell alongside executives from the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq from the White House. #kids #trump #whitehouse #news #money ♬ original sound – cbsnews
A TikTok video showed another aspect of the incident with the bored kids plopping down on the floor in the Oval Office as they mill around, clearly unsure of what they’re supposed to be doing. In the video, the kids stand near where the press is taking photos. Then, after one little girl decides to sit down, the others quickly follow suit.
One of the kids, a little boy with a pacifier, even falls asleep with his head resting on the shoulder of another kid. Honestly, it’s like a Renaissance painting come to life.
“But why do kids need to be present during such [a] meeting?” A TikTok user questioned in the comments. “They have them there all the time, why?”
Another user commented, “The kid immediately sleeping and the other one so upset by being bored he has to self soothe, meanwhile everyone’s bored as hell listening to nothing. Real.”
The photo is vastly different than one of Mamdani with kids.
In the comments under the X post, someone shared a photo of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during a meeting he had with children, juxtaposed with the image of the bored and downright annoyed kids in the Oval office with Trump. In Mamdani’s photo, the mayor sits on the floor of a classroom laughing while some of the kids appear to playfully pull him down.
Then we have the Trump photo, where the kids look like they would prefer to be anywhere but the White House. Does that mean kids hate Trump, but love Mamdani? I mean, not officially, but the photos are both very real.
