Let's be honest. Now that Netflix's series Bridgerton has entered our lives, we can't remember what we did without it. When the show premiered in December, we simply couldn't get enough of the love story between Simon and Daphne (or the gorgeous costumes and set design from the period), and we were instantly glad that this series of romance novels from author Julia Quinn had been brought to life. At the same time, we fell in love with this amazing cast, and as it turns out, they seem to have loved filming Bridgerton as much as we loved watching it.
Between the friendships they made, fun moments while filming, and even the birthdays they celebrated on set, the cast has come through with so many amazing photos from their time working on Bridgerton, and it only makes us love them all more.
Read on for some of the best behind-the-scenes photos from the filming of Bridgerton, featuring all of our new favorite actors and actresses. So far, another season hasn't been officially announced, but we have a feeling one is coming. These pics will definitely help tide us over until then.
This girl doesn't mess around! Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton, shared this photo of chairs from the set, saying that he'd asked costar Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, to use her photo — and she made absolutely sure she would be credited as the photographer!
The Beginning
Just as Bridgerton was beginning to film in July 2019, Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton in the series, shared this behind-the-scenes look from the cast's first table read, including a look at the script. "Don't mind me. Just a little excited," she wrote in her caption.
A Dynamic Duo
Penelope had a hardcore crush on Colin in the series, and in real life, it seems the actors who played them wasted no time in becoming friends. Here's a picture, which Nicola shared on Instagram, of the two of them hanging out on set in costume together. Luke and Nicola are too cute!
How Queen Charlotte Really Feels
It's impossible to watch Bridgerton and not recognize Queen Charlotte as the absolute HBIC she is, and this pic only strengthens our love for her. Here's Golda Rosheuvel on set, drinking coffee out of a paper cup — that did not exist in regency England — looking just like we do on a Monday morning.
And Her Big Hair
While we're on the topic of Queen Charlotte, this is another BTS pic that Golda shared from the set. She's posing with Adam James Phillips, the Bridgerton hairstylist, and after watching the series, we can probably all agree that he definitely had his work cut out for him. "Those combs saved my life," Golda wrote.
Solving the Whistledown Mystery
Ruby Barker, who plays Marina Thompson in the series, shared this photo with Luke and Jessica Madsen, who plays Cressida, as they waited around in costume on set, and all three of them are looking pretty serious! "Pondering our Whistledown theories," Ruby wrote in her caption.
A Birthday Celebration
When Nicola's birthday rolled around in 2019, she happened to be on set filming, and boy, did everyone at Bridgerton make it special for her. Not only did she get that cake while in hair and makeup, but swipe over to see even more celebrating that happened that day.
Hair & Makeup
Regé-Jean Page, who plays Simon, the Duke of Hastings, shared this photo from his very first day working on the series. It shows just a little of the magic that has to happen behind the scenes to bring Simon to life — and how humble Regé-Jean has stayed, because he wrote "always stay gracious."
Unladylike Behavior
Is this one of the best photos to come out of the Bridgerton filming? Yes, it definitely is. Here, we have some members of the Bridgerton family throwing up a few middle fingers in the carriage (with a green screen background for showing their journey, of course).
The Beginning of Simon & Daphne
To celebrate Bridgerton hitting Netflix in December, showrunner Chris Van Dusen shared this photo with Phoebe and Regé-Jean from the first day of filming. Ah, they were so young and innocent then — or were they?
"Day 1 of shooting. These two started with one of our more, um, INTENSE scenes," Van Dusen wrote.
Getting Ready
"Just 3 bachelors getting ready for a ball," Luke wrote when he shared this photo of him, Jamie Beamish (who plays Nigel Berbrooke), and Simon Lennon, who plays Lord Ambrose. Not only is this a funny photo, but it also shows just how close the cast got while filming.
Penelope Prep
Ruby shared this sweet shot of Nicola in the hair and makeup chair — as if we'd ever forget who that red hair belonged to! She's going over her script and preparing to bring Penelope to life, and we love that her costar managed to capture this moment.
It Takes a Village
Regé-Jean shared these behind-the-scenes photos from filming to showcase the huge effort it took to make Bridgerton happen, from the gifts that Luke Thompson made for the cast to the roles that everyone played in making it such a fun environment.
"It takes a village. A city more like. And so many people deserve to be proud of the countless hours and endless heart they gave to make sure we all had this show — but here is a very brief and incomplete sample of my own personal awe and gratitude to our village of bright, generous people," he wrote.
Cheers
OK, so things might not have worked out between Marina and Colin on the show, but at least this beautiful friendship had the chance to form. After all, this is a pretty epic Boomerang — especially because Ruby has her pinky finger out while she's holding her champagne glass.
These Three BFFs
Speaking of friendships formed on the show, here's another sweet example. The day that Bridgerton dropped on Netflix, Phoebe shared this photo of her with Molly McGlynn, who played Maid Rose, and Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton. They're so cute!
Simon & Daphne
Chris Van Dusen shared this photo of Regé-Jean and Phoebe as they filmed one of Simon and Daphne's (many) steamy scenes. This one took place on their honeymoon, and OMG — such a romantic setting. We can't get enough of this pairing or their amazing chemistry.
A Bit Judgy
Is there ever a moment when Lady Featherington isn't looking at Marina disapprovingly? Here, we have a moment from shooting that's all about Ruby — and we've gotta love Polly Walker, off to the side, totally exuding Featherington's judgy personality.
A Moment For Penelope & Colin
"That @lukenewtonuk, always trying to steal my lovely pink gloves," Nicola wrote when she shared this photo of herself with Luke as they talked with director Julie Anne Robinson on set. She shared this pic more than a month before Bridgerton's release, and little did we know what was in store for us!
Philippa in the Spotlight
In another behind-the-scenes photo from Ruby Barker, we get to see Harriet Cains, who played Philippa Featherington on the show, front and center in this gorgeous shot near the cast's trailers. In her caption, Ruby wrote that this was one of her favorite photos of her friend.
Where It All Started
This photo dates all the way back to July 2019, when Bridgerton filming began. Chris Van Dusen wrote: "The feeling I have seeing this project come to life cannot be described. An incredible first day with the most incredible cast and crew!"
He had no idea at the time what a hit it would really turn out to be!
