What to Know
Kansas City Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes‘ wife Brittany Mahomes is coming under fire for her latest career milestone. After Sports Illustrated Swimsuit unveiled its new cover featuring Brittany in a tiny bikini, her critics have a lot to say — both about the photo that was chosen for the cover of the magazine and the fact that Brittany even got her own cover in the first place.
The magazine shared the cover on February 5.

On the special edition digital cover, Brittany is posing in a barely-there red bikini against a beachy backdrop. She was one of six women chosen to represent the wives and girlfriends of NFL players for a story titled The New Era of NFL Wags in a group that also included Normani, Christen Goff, Ronika Love, Haley Cavinder and Claire Kittle.
“I think being the significant other to an NFL player is an incredibly hard role, and we take on a lot of important stuff behind the scenes that people don’t get to see,” Brittany said in the interview. “But we also get to enjoy life and do things that we love, too.”
Some people are really unimpressed with the photoshoot.
In the replies to SI‘s cover reveal on X, people did not hold their opinions back whatsoever — including one person who edited the photo to cover Brittany up with a white t-shirt.
“You’d think that with all that money, she could buy a top that fits,” one person wrote, while another added, “a mother of three should not ‘dress’ like this.”
In a word? Yikes.
Others don’t believe Brittany deserves a cover on a magazine like this one.
More than one person was quick to point out that since Brittany is not an athlete nor a model, she shouldn’t have a place on a Sports Illustrated cover, with one even posting, “being a wife is not an achievement.”
Though Brittany isn’t a professional athlete like her husband, she is very involved in the world of sports. Not only is she one of the owners of the women’s soccer team the Kansas City Current, but she also recently joined the advisory board of the National Women’s Soccer League.
Maybe we should cut Brittany some slack? After all, the intention of this cover was to focus on the WAGs.
