Brittney Griner is officially a “Pops”! The WNBA star, 33, and her wife, Cherelle, welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in early July. Recently, Brittney dished on her newborn son’s stats and new parenthood during the low-key birth announcement.
For those following her journey, Brittney has experienced a complete 180 over the course of two years. In August 2022, she was sentenced to nine years in prison in Russia after pleading guilty to drug smuggling charges related to cannabis cartridges found in her luggage that February. She was ultimately released in December 2022 after 10 months in captivity, in exchange for the release of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
Let’s take a closer look at what Brittney said about her baby boy.

Brittney recently sat down for an interview with CBS Sports.
On July 19, Brittney sat down for a chat with CBS Sports ahead of the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game.
“I think there’s probably one other job that you’re about to get into that is really hard and really scary. You’re about to be a mom,” the interviewer said.
After Brittney clarified she’ll be called “Pops,” the interviewer asked how exciting impending parenthood was and what she looked forward to the most.
That's when Brittney low-key revealed that her and Cherelle's baby boy already arrived.
“I am super excited,” Brittney said. “Well, I mean I guess I’ll just drop it, he’s here.
Additionally, Brittney noted her son was born on July 24 and weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz.
The WNBA star admitted that since welcoming her son, 'everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window.'
“That’s my man. He is amazing,” Brittney gushed. “They say, you know, as soon as you see them, just everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window. And that’s literally what happens.”

During the interview, Brittney admitted that it 'sucks' she has to leave her baby for Olympic Games Paris 2024.
On the heels of welcoming her first child, Brittney is gearing up for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 from July 26 to August 11. “It kind of sucks because I’ve got to leave, you know?” she told CBS Sports. “But at the same time, he’ll understand.”
So far, neither parent has shared a photo of their son.
As of writing, neither Brittney nor Cherelle has shared any photos of their baby boy via social media. They did, however, post images from Cherelle’s pregnancy ā so hopefully for fans, the new parents soon drop that first snap. Because as Brittney shared during the interview, “My whole phone has turned into him now.”
