It's unlikely that the late Queen Elizabeth would be too happy about the latest rumors coming out of the royal family. According to several unnamed sources, Camilla Parker Bowles will be getting a new title when King Charles is crowned in May — and it's not the one Elizabeth wanted for her controversial daughter-in-law.
Sources told the Daily Mail that Charles and Camilla are planning to go against the Queen's wishes.
The royal couple apparently has no plans to follow the Queen's plans, which she carefully laid out in a 2022 letter, by bestowing Camilla with the traditional title of queen consort. Queen Elizabeth's letter came as a surprise to many at the time, because it had been understood that the only reason Elizabeth approved her eldest son's request to marry his former mistress was because Camilla would never be permitted the coveted title.
Camilla has been married to Charles since 2005.
Not everyone has been a fan of the couple's union, considering it came at the cost of Princess Diana's relationship with her ex-husband. Charles and Camilla's affair was one of the worst-kept secrets in royal history, and word quickly got out about how their extramarital relationship had driven the beloved princess to leave her unfaithful husband.
Camilla and Charles will officially be crowned in May.
The coronation ceremony, scheduled for May 6, has been in the works for months. And although everyone assumed that Camilla would take her title of queen consort during the service, there appears to be mounting evidence that she has other ideas.
The New York Post reported that there's already been a rebranding of Camilla, pointing out that her charity Duchess of Cornwall's Reading Room was officially changed to Queen's Reading Room earlier in February.
Apparently, some think the title queen consort is just too wordy.
"There's a view in the Palace that queen consort is cumbersome and it might be simpler for Camilla to be known just as the queen when the time is right," one of the sources told the Daily Mail.
We can see how queen consort could be a mouthful, but it does seem odd that Charles would go against his mom's wishes, especially because she made them so perfectly clear.
We don't think Diana's kids are going to be too keen on this idea.
There have been plenty of rumors that Prince William and Prince Harry haven't exactly warmed to their father's second wife. We can't imagine that either of them is going to be happy if Camilla goes against their beloved grandmother's last wishes and takes the plum title she once held herself. In fact, it may be one of the few things the brothers agree on these days.
