Teen Mom OG star Tyler Baltierra is full of surprises. Following his recent venture into a specific pay-for-photos account, it seems he’s also putting time into his love for rap music.
Tyler’s wife and fellow ‘Teen Mom OG’ star Catelynn Lowell shared a preview August 11 of Tyler’s rap.
On Instagram, Catelynn shared an Instagram Reel featuring Tyler rapping an original song he wrote.
The untitled track was just a snippet of the audio, and it sounds like she posted it hoping to encourage Tyler to continue his interest in music.
Catelynn didn't ask Tyler first if she could post his music.
"I keep telling him to share his art with people because it’s impactful & people could really relate to it!” Catelynn wrote in the caption of the social share.
“I’m so d— proud of you @tylerbaltierramtv and you are an amazing daddy!! We adore you!"
The song lyrics touched on Tyler’s childhood and his relationship with his dad.
In the song snippet, the lyrics point to Tyler’s challenging childhood, specifically discussing his relationship with his father, Butch.
Fans of MTV’s 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom have seen some of the complicated relationship Tyler has with his father. Butch hasn’t been a stable person in Tyler’s life, though Butch has been open about his struggles with addiction, substance abuse, and his experience with being in and out of jail.
The lyrics were deeply personal, and his delivery was emotional.
In the song, Tyler raps, "My heartbeat skips which leads to screams / It always weeps 'cause those d— drugs are all you seem to ever need / How do you keep getting high over loving your kids, huh? / Are we just not good enough? Too much responsibility with no rush? So you just don't give a f—."
The clip continues, “F— my sadistic granddad for beating up my dad so bad / which made him think that love is impossible to last / which made him weak and made him creep into houses / stealing any type of valuable thing / just to pawn it off / just to get some crack right back."
The reactions from fans were mixed, with some praising Tyler’s skills and others not so much.
There were people some who really loved his music and wanted Tyler to release more of it.
“Ok wow! I see an album in his future!! He should name it curses!” one commenter wrote. “He for sure could share more of this. I’m here for it!”
“This really got me in the feels. I relate to what he’s saying so much,” another person wrote. “Tyler’s style is unique, it’s creative & I hope he releases this, because he can help so many people.”
“Wow now THIS is POWERFUL,” shared another fan. “This is how you put your pain into art.”
But not everyone loved his music.
"This is awful,” one listener wrote, “but good on Tyler for breaking the cycle of absentee, abusive, drug-addicted parents."
"This was very hard to listen to,” added someone else. “I don't like it.”
Another listener shared, "I got so embarrassed that I had to exit after five seconds."
"My ears are bleeding,” someone else wrote. “I couldn’t listen for more than two seconds. Sorry."
It doesn’t sound like Catelynn had permission from Tyler to share.
In the comments, Tyler hints that he didn’t give Catelynn the “OK” to share the music on social media, where she has more than 4.2 million followers.
“Wow…I love you so much babe! Idk if I was ready for this & I never really planned on ever sharing it with people since I just use it as my own personal therapeutic outlet,” Tyler wrote in the comments.
“But you always push me to be my most authentic best self & for that I will forever love & cherish you!,” he continued.
“Thank you for always supporting me through all of my struggles & discoveries. You honestly make me a better me & I love you more than I could ever express!”
In the end, however, it sounds like Tyler was happy Catelynn shared his music with the world.
