Teen Mom stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra recently reunited with their oldest daughter, Carly, who they placed for adoption when they were teenagers.
Their time on the MTV show chronicled their surprise pregnancy and the grieving process that came after navigating their new normal after lovingly placing their daughter with a family they chose for her. Unfortunately, although the parents had a good reunion last month with their daughter, their extended family was less than supportive.
It's been 14 years, and Catelynn, Tyler, and their biological daughter Carly have grown so much.
On Instagram, Catelynn and Tyler spoke about getting together with Carly, along with their three daughters: 8-year-old Novalee, 4-year-old Vaeda, and 1-year-old Rya.
"Had an amazing visit with our girl," Catelynn wrote. "She's funny, kind, SMART, goofy and STUNNING."
Catelynn admitted that 'adoption is hard and saying goodbye time and time again is soooo hard.'
Spending time with Carly, however, is always worth it, she explained. "But seeing all of our girls together, getting to know Carly deeper and deeper each time and being with all four of our daughters is truly such a blessing!" Catelynn shared.
In the comment section of Catelynn's post, Tyler shared his own feelings of their reunion with Carly.
"The amount of pure organic love is overwhelming, almost to the point of being unbearable at times," Tyler wrote. "She's so smart. She's so kind. She's so goofy & her laughing face is imprinting & infectious. Her parents have done such an amazing job raising her."
Tyler also shared his love for Catelyn, calling her the "best mother" and thanked her for being who she is.
Unfortunately, their happiness appeared short-lived.
Although fans rallied around the couple and celebrated their reunion with Carly, Cateynn's family didn't seem to feel the same way. A few days after their reunion, Catelynn leaked private texts from her brother and grandma, who had some things to say that didn't seem kind.
Catelynn posted screenshots of text messages she said were from her grandma. "Hey you never have to worry about me crashing your FAKE reunion because if I wanted to be there I would've," the text reads.
"You are so disrespectful and TOXIC h— you can't even forgive your brother when you have already forgiven all the people who have ripped you off and allowed them in your life and the kids."
Also included in the Instagram post were screenshots of text messages between herself and her brother, Nick.
The two seemed to be talking about their mom, who was upset about something. "you're toxic lol, you bring the toxicity," Nick wrote, according to Catelynn, before she said "goodbye" and told him to mind his business.
When sharing the texts, Catelynn said she was tired of how her family treats her.
"This is how my 'family' treats me the morning after our visit. The morning after saying goodbye AGAIN to Carly," Catelynn wrote.
"A morning when I'm waking up with anxiety and missing the time spent with our first born… The morning after seeing my mother drink a beer at our visit… even tho I spoke about my boundaries and not wanting to be around her when she is drinking… a morning when I was going to have to call her out for that… but I'm the toxic one in this family?" she continued.
She then called out her grandmother and brother for speaking to her the way they did. "I'm the one that's working SO D— hard to BREAK these intergenerational traumas! When is enough enough?! When does a person just walk away from all the toxic s—?!" she asked.
"THIS is NOT how family is supposed to be… people act like they don't do wrong to me or don't do toxic things to me but what about all this? I'm so over it. I'm exhausted…"
Fans had Catelynn's back and encouraged her to let the pressure and stress go.
"You don't need this in your life," one commenter shared. "You've worked way too hard to have peace. It's time for you to mourn the loss of the family that you wish that you had so that you can let go of the one that you actually do have."
"You handle it so well," another person wrote.
"Normalize blocking family. Just because they are blood doesn't mean you have to deal with their disrespect," someone else shared. "They need to let you live your life period."
Hopefully, Catelynn and Tyler didn't let their extended family rain on their beautiful reunion with Carly.
